The food here was great. The beer selection, well, just okay. It's the hipster era, and even those of us born in the 1970s still want a good IPA (and a server who knows that Fat Tire and Alaskan Amber are not IPAs). We have four breweries in town that all make a good one, just have them in cans if not on draft. The biggest downside to this restaurant is that you can't sit outside. I mean, we were the only people there, no one else but us and the staff, and I asked if our family of five could sit outside. I was told we couldn't, because there wasn't table service out there. It's July. That means we're 45 minutes away from this entire resort and surrounding neighborhood being covered in snow again. Why not let folks enjoy the summertime? It's not like the walk is that distant for a server, and especially when nobody else is even in the restaurant. I also noticed that, as we were finishing, maybe around 8pm (maybe a little earlier), the place started to get a bit busier. When we left, there were maybe five other tables instead of just us. So why close at 9pm? People on vacation don't want to eat at 5pm, they want to enjoy their day and then have a restaurant with a bar attached (and since it's summertime, why close the Black Bear so early? Unless it's just a matter of staff and money...outside = better this time of year.) that they can enjoy well into the evening. We'd come here much more often if it was just a bit more focused around the good times and diner experience than whatever is...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePurgys is the on site restaurant at the purgatory resort. We were there in the summer and had bought the activity pass. We stopped halfway through the day for lunch. The main building was closed but it wasn't super clear so people kept trying to go inside. People were also unsure how to order.
We eventually 3.the order at the bar. The bartender was super nice and made some good food recommendations as well as a beer recommendation. We got two regular burgers, a barbecue burger, and chicken strips. The food was well made, especially the burgers. We were pretty surprised, especially considering this is a ski resort restaurant.
They were very tasty, and well-dressed. The meat was a little overdone but that's fine. The meal was quite pricey, over $100 for the four meals, two Cokes, and the beer. So, that was the only downside.
Overall it was a solid lunch so if you're at Purgatory, don't hesitate to grab some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe've been coming to Purgatory annually for over 15 years. We've always looked forward to eating at Purgy's, which in the past, has had pretty good food. We flew in today and were exhausted, so tonight we decided to get a "to go" order from Purgy's and spent over $50. The food was inedible......not just average but horrendous. We got chicken tacos, salmon tacos and a tofu pho. Everything was extremely salty. My fish tasted so fishy that I thought it might be spoiled. My daughter's pho was awful. There was very little broth and the noodles were undercooked. We ended up throwing all the food away and were very disappointed. I called the manager (Dan) to let him know. He said he would "let the kitchen know". His response was very unsatisfactory after being a customer for years, spending so much and just throwing...
