Icing On The Cake Maryland — Restaurant in Columbia

Great addition to the already stellar lineup of bakeries in the area! But Icing on the Cake has something the competitors don't have: ice cream! Their ice cream is made in-house and stands alone against any of the nearby ice cream shops. I tried the plain chocolate and the banana pudding and both were rich, creamy, and full of flavor. My daughter proclaimed the chocolate ice cream is the best she's ever had and I can't recall having a better one neither. I'm looking forward to trying other flavors next time.

We also brought home 4 cupcakes and they were all delicious as well. They're larger than a standard cupcake but not quite as big as Smallcakes or the mini-cakes from Costco. The cakes were all moist and the icing wasn't overly sweet. Some flavors came with filling inside but I didn't try any of those on this visit. There were also cookies and a few other bakery items to try but selection was very limited at this time. The owner was friendly and said they haven't ramped up with their marketing and promotional side of business yet, so I expect them to be better stocked in...

These cupcakes were AMAZING. I found this shop by scrolling randomly on TikTok. I literally live about 8 mins down the road, and my munchies kicked in so I figured let me check it out since I’ve never noticed this spot before. We ordered a box of 4: Churro cupcake, rainbow sprinkle, Vanilla lemon, and the Carrot cake cupcake ~$18. ALL were very moist, even at 2:30pm (was told they’re made fresh early morning). I do feel like the location isn’t very eye catching. As many times that I’ve drove past this area and I’ve never noticed this place 🤦🏽‍♀️. Definitely lacks marketing. I worry it may not last due to this, but I need it to stick around so I can try some more calories. My intention was to post a TikTok review, but once I licked my icing on the Churro cup up, I accidentally devoured it, and then we tackled the remaining 3 before I realized I didn’t even pull out my phone to record anything 😭. Friendly staff. Asked if the cupcakes were made from a mix and she said yes but they were doctored up. Very pretty large cupcakes and loved the variety of flavors available. Unfortunately, and yes I know how hot it is, by the time I got home, the icing had slid off the cupcakes, and I purchased six. I have no problem with the price and she was very nice and gave me a first-time customer discount. That was unexpected and appreciated. As far as taste, they were as she stated. Mix cupcakes will always have a tender crumb but they lack flavor. The icing I really couldn't say for sure, but did not taste like a true buttercream so I have to assume it was not made on the premises. I'm sad to say that most people today cannot taste true scratch baking from what is being put out today. I'm not trying to be mean, I just expect more from a professional baker.
