Washy's Pub — Restaurant in Columbia

We are full-time RVers who, while traveling around the US, are in search of the best cheeseburger and have a rating system of The Best (only 1 rated), Very Good, Good, OK, and Not Impressed. While at our home base in Southern Illinois, we were in the Columbia, IL, area and Googled “hamburger restaurants.” We saw Washy’s Pub had good burger reviews, so decided to give them a try for lunch. Washy’s has a simple bar atmosphere with about a dozen tables. We ordered their Classic burger with me having American cheese and my wife pepperjack. We also requested lettuce, pickles, and sliced onions. The handmade patties were about 10 oz (good sized), nicely seasoned, cooked to order, charbroiled, and served on a nicely-toast fresh bun. I had their skinny-style battered fries and my wife had onion rings. The burgers came out hot and were super tasty due the meat seasoning. We’re not sure what seasoning they used, but it worked! My wife’s burger was just a tiny bit better than mine due the pepperjack they use. The fries and onion rings were among the best we’ve had as well. I'm still trying to process the sheer disgust I felt after dining at Washy’s Pub last night. The moment we walked in, it was clear that cleanliness wasn't even on their radar.

The floors were sticky, the tables were grimy, and the smell of stale grease hung heavy in the air. But we were hungry and decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. BIG MISTAKE.

Our server seemed completely disinterested in our presence, and it took an eternity to get our orders taken. When the food finally arrived, I was appalled

We immediately asked to speak to the manager, who seemed utterly unconcerned by our complaints. No apology, no offer to comp our meal or provide a discount. Just a shrug and a "sorry to hear that."

Needless to say, we will never be back. In fact, I'd advise anyone who values their health and sanity to steer clear of this dump. Washy’s Pub is a breeding ground for bacteria and a slap in the face to the very concept of cleanliness.

Save your stomach (and your dignity) and eat somewhere...

We had a very good dinner here. We loved the chicken n dumplings special. Drink options are limited, as they don't really have a cocktail menu and they only had one IPA available (but at least it was Two Hearted).

Came back for breakfast in New Year's Day. We called first at 10.30 to ask how late they serve breakfast. They said 11.00. So we rushed (and broke the speed limit) to get there in time. When we arrived at 10.50, the waitress took awhile to come over to us. She started chatting with her coworker and looking at us before coming over. Then she came over and said "we're switching to lunch, I hope that's OK." We said no, we came for breakfast, and we left. This was at 10.55.

If they didn't want to serve us breakfast, why not tell us that on the phone? It could've saved us a lot of effort.

Luckily we called Sunrise in Millstadt and they said sure, they serve breakfast all day everyday, come on in. From now on, we'll just go...
