Not 5 stars. Maybe Buckeye Pizza Express convinced 17 of their family, friends, and / or employees to give them 5 star ratings, but this is not a 5 star situation. Last night, I ordered 4 supreme chicken gyros and 1 meatball sub and was immensely looking forward to devouring 1 of each upon delivery then eating the remaining 3 gyros for my meals today. Out of desperation and starvation I stuffed them down, but the sub was lukewarm, soggy (wet bread), and I'm pretty sure the meatballs aren't meat but rather the frozen soy product served in public school lunch cafeterias. The gyros were worse. I've never had a chicken gyro where the meat is deep fried. Its supposed to be succulently grilled which I the whole reason why I ordered it - an attempt to get something more healthy. But, the chicken (see pictures) is chopped / almost diced into tiny pieces and deep fried. Based on the amount of residual oil, my guess is that they just toss the meat into a french fry basket, deep fry it, don't even shake the grease off then carelessly dump it into the gyro shell. The resulting product is nearly inedibly dry and hard. What remains in the 2nd picture was tossed in the trash. I'm pretty sure I'm going to throw the rest away and seek other options for lunch and dinner today. I would have been better off just getting a grilled chicken sandwich from the Wendy's right next...
ย ย ย Read moreI decided to try this place out, after recently receiving a menu on mydoorstep.. the new menu has prices that are much cheaper than the old one, and they have many options and specials that can't be beat! I ordered the Friday special: 2 large 2-topping pizzas for $14.99 ... that's insanely good! The pizzas were pretty good; my only complaint would be the outer crust was just slightly undercooked-- (if the owners are reading this, maybe increase the temperature of the oven, or keep same temperature but add a little more time..?)
Overall, the pizzas were tasty and affordable, and they have gyros, wings, pasta, and subs.. you definitely get 'more bang for your buck' here, and I want to support local small business rather than go to a national franchise. I definitely plan on ordering again! Service was amazing too; for a Friday night, there wasn't much of a wait time!
Note: I assume the owners are Muslim, so there's no pork products-- the pepperoni and sausage are all-beef, and the ham and bacon are made from turkey-- but it didn't impact the flavor at all! I got one pizza with pepperoni and sausage, and another with pineapple and bacon, and both were delicious! You should definitely give this...
ย ย ย Read moreThey charged me $16 for gyros they didn't have pita bread for, so when I picked something else, he tried arguing I had to still pay the difference, but I picked something that was also $16 (12 lemon pepper wings, which I ended up receiving mild wings by mistake..??). They also wanted $8.50 for Buckeye fries which would've been fine if they didn't give me a thin layer of fries in the pan. I have to be completely fair though, it was that cashier's first day and he came off as panicky. They did give me all drum sticks like I asked and the toppings for the buckeye fries was generous. He doesn't have the best patience though when the menu prices clearly contradicted the prices he was telling me. The wings, although the wrong spice, tasted alright, but the actual fries weren't very good. I mean without all the toppings, the fries themselves I think they should replace or at least cook differently, but that's just my opinion. First time trying them out and -$24...
