Another trip to Dublin, OH. Wanting to try the southern Indian food. A friend recoomended the place. First the ambience: small town feel, little worn down place, but on Tuesday night, about 70% occupied. I will order Masala dosa because that is my only benchmark to compare with. Me and my wife love ONLY masala dosa. At entrance as I entered did not knew if I should pick a table or wait for server, two people deep inside the server area made eye contact but never helped me. Finally a man points me to a table. My picture shows my view, its like sitting right outside the kitchen. Well 5 minutes waiting no one took order or asked me for water. Looks like place for college kids. I could hear the talk in the kitchen sounds like some housewives helping with the kitchen.. Just saw him re heating the tea in a kettle in microwave...not sure when he will take my order. I already told him I dont know the norm at this place and this is my first time. Finally order at just shy of 10 minute mark. On his suggestion I added somasa, being made fresh now. Server seemed friendly. I see lot of american, must be good place.. Samosa came in quick. Good, not quite punjabi taste but good..asked for cup for soda.. Got a stainless steel cup.. Sweet chutney very southIndian.. But not bad at all..i stayed with the mint chutney though...dosa now... Thick.. Oily, not so good.. Sambhar not to my taste.. Coconut chutney mediocre...sorry but had to leave food in the plate... Anyways... I will just get back to my hotel and settle with a coffee...Not my type of food or place to go.. May be a...
Read moreQuick Review: If you’re craving a vegetarian dosa (crispy South Indian crepe) this will do the job. Different dosas were similar taste. Need chutneys to dip. Will definitely need to up the spicy level to give more accurate review.
Details: Atmosphere: Homey Indian restaurant. Best as a quick lunch spot. Service: Standard (seated, and served appropriately)
Food: Dosa Thali combo with Hydrabad Masala Dosa Overall Score (3/5) *Spicy Scale (1.5/5), Big Eater approved, Carbs for days: The combo serves Wada, Idli, and Dosa. Dosa was MUCH bigger in person. Suuuper crispy (see video). When I ordered, the waiter asked if I like spicy and recommended this, but barely spicy. Filling was hearty with lots of potato. The wada (donut) was good to dip with the chutneys. Idli (white circular bread) was fluffy. Lots of carbs overall, could do without the combo. Chutneys are necessary for flavor contrast. Curry was also okay to dip.
Mysore Masala Dosa Overall Score (3/5) *Spicy Scale (1/5), Big Eater approved: Another big crispy dosa! Hearty potato based filling. Need to eat with chutneys and curry dip.
*Overall Score (1-5) 1: actively avoid 2: rather not order 3: would rather cook, but would order if lazy 4: damn good 5: I am blessed to be eating this meal **Spicy scale (0-5): 0=no reason to be spicy 1=no detectable spice 2=not initially spicy, but after thoughts of spicy 3=initially spicy and some after thoughts of spice 4= initially spicy and need water to continue meal 5= need water on first...
Read moreOptions given, I would have rated the place with more than five stars. This is an authentic place, unlike majority of Indian restaurants. If you are from india, you know what I mean. The place is small with a much smaller parking facility. The staff are amazing. The food is fresh, good, and prepared with care. The ingredients are fresh and good. We were late in night, almost towards the time of closing. Still they entertained us. We started with Mysore bonda. The chutneys were too good. I ordered the Hyderabad masala dosa, and my husband ordered some other variant of masala dosa. My dosa was much better with an additional layer of hot and tangy- spicy chutney to it. The sambar was decent, but the coconut chutney was terrific. I would go back again. The filter coffee was very good, if you love india style coffee. This is a vegetarian place, and they have other Indian vegetarian delicacies like chhole- bhature, puri- sabji etc. I highly recommend this place, if you are a dosa lover like me.
Update: last time I loved everything. This time when I visited I found them degraded. They were understaffed. The service was not good. The Dahivada was not good. I didn’t like the recipe. Even the dosa was...
