Most Recent Review: The good: Omelets, blueberry pancakes and hash browns. The cooks (in back) are super friendly and consistent.
The Not So Good: I've actually gone off their yeast donuts. After not having them for a long while, I finally got a chance to try one again. It was a bizarre experience. Tasted like fried dough like what you get at the fair... which I like, but not what I expected from a donut. So if you want donuts, I suggest Buckeye.
Coffee is hit or miss in quality. Generally service is really good, but at my last visit it was near impossible to get a refill. No one even came over to our side of the small diner, so we couldn't even try to flag the server down.
George remains friendly with regulars and gives uncomfortable half smiles if he happens to catch the eye of someone he doesn't know. He is also feared by his employees. Which may be why I see a fair degree of turnover. The impression is that he is very strict - which I suppose is good if you are trying to maintain a successful business. But employees shouldn't really fear your wrath.
The temperature inside the place is generally cold, especially in winter. Despite having double doors, there are still frequent drafts and the heating isn't set high enough to counteract it. So it can be physically uncomfortable being there.
1st Updated Review: I'm very active on the brunch scene. I just tried to go here for brunch, they close at 2:30, i got here 2:10 cuz i wanted to avoid the Easter crowd. Dead as a doornail and they apparently close their grills at 2. No one was there! Then she had the nerve, after seeing me on the verge of tears, to wish me a happy easter. Heartless. I was looking fwd to this all wkend. I just didn't want to hit them when they were heavy, figured they would rather use the space on a group than a single person. I used to be a regular, and I could swear they never used to close them at 2. I was polite and just left. Literally anywhere else would've served me. I know from experience.
Old review: Blueberry pancakes made with donut mix (or so I've been told) are absolutely heavenly! Coffee and donuts are great, nice and fresh. Yeast donuts are soft and light. Hash browns are very good too. Staff is great! And the interior...
Read moreWe came here to eat on a Friday morning at around 10 AM. It was my boyfriend's second time there but my first time there. It was a cute little diner. It was decently busy for a weekday morning, but not packed. I ordered the make your own omelet that came with toast and home fries. My boyfriend ordered the eggs Benedict and a blueberry pancake. We also ordered donuts to eat while we were waiting for the food to come out. The donuts were great and tasted very fresh. The cooks prepared the meals so quickly that I hadn't even finished my donut. I was surprised at how quickly it came out to our table, because there were quite a few other tables there. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the eggs Benedict, but I also loved my omelet. The portions were huge, and we both left the restaurant stuffed. The prices were awesome as well. We both ordered two full meals, two donuts, and two coffees, and the total was only $21. The servers were great as well. Other servers other than your own walk around and will refill your water or coffee if they notice that it's running low. The only thing I suggest is getting there early on weekends. This is a cozy little restaurant, so there's not a ton of seating. So, I'm guessing that there may be a bit of a wait on weekend mornings. This is such an underrated diner in Columbus. It's definitely one of my favorites already. I highly recommend this place, and we...
Read moreMy first time having a meal here. Have had their donuts, many times, and was looking forward to the same quality in my breakfast of eggs benedict & corned beef hash.
Rather than hollandaise sauce a type of chicken gravy tops the eggs benedict. Seems to come out of a can. The corned beef hash had the texture of runny oatmeal. The taste was pure salt. Also seems to be commercially prepared. (GFS offers a powdered hollandaise mix, and a frozen hash that far exceed what was served) Were this meal my first impression I would not return. After asking about my uneaten food my server was quite kind and adjusted the bill. She was very gracious.
However, I did see a lot of wonderful looking plates headed to tables and obviously satisfied diners checking out. Plates with bacon, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and sandwiches that all looked wonderful and were clearly being enjoyed were all around me. I will return for breakfast and order a more traditional preparation of eggs.
The coffee was spot on. The atmosphere is small town- comfortable. Staff are all friendly, even at the busiest time. Customers are known by name and are loyal.
I scored them so low because any breakfast restaurant should know what hollandaise is. What they offer is so far off the mark it should have never been put on the menu. One star for the visit today. Five for coffee, kindness and simply amazing donuts. Balances...
