El Tio Carnitas — Restaurant in Compton

My husband and I went to this place this morning. He asked for a sample of the carnitas which every other place we have been to gives. The guy told him he wants aloud. We understood but left because we were not going to buy several pounds without knowing if they were good. Then he got a message from them on facebook, and my husband very politely told them he went but didn't buy because he was not given a sample and even thanked then twice. The person then was extremely rude, and told him to go to McDonald's next time to get a sample. This place does not look like a place you would want to go to. It does look old and could use some updating, but it is clean inside. I remember coming here as a child when it was a totally different restaurant. My husband kept bugging he wanted to try it so we finally came to try it out. We bought 2lbs of mixed carnitas with its respective salsa and it was delicious. The mixed carnitas are not super greasy or super dry like other places. The price is great. I really wanted to give this place a higher score and they deserve a higher score. Their carnitas and mixto mix plate is delicious as is their carnitas and suadero. Their salsa needs improvement and it’s a little too watered-down. A good salsa is a make or break component in Mexican food and specially in carnitas. A small improvement to their salsa will easily bring this place up to a 4-star rating. But make no mistake their carnitas are worth the trip...
