Two words come to mind when I think of this restaurant - UTTTER DISAPPOINTMENT. Let's take it from the top shall we.

My father is Italian and has eaten at Il Ganaio many times before when he is in town from Florida so this was the restaurant that was chosen to celebrate his milestone 80th birthday. During planning, our family was instructed to come at 4:00 PM as Il Granaio would not take our party of 20 any later. No other stipulations were provided including a window of time we could be there, when we had to be out or a cake cutting fee.

The day of the party, guests arrived in a timely fashion from as far away as New York State and southern Maryland and our gathering commenced. The wait staff were very friendly and kind and catered to each person attending the party whether it was ensuring drinks were filled, taking our orders, or delivering food in a timely fashion. Note these sentiments are the ONLY notable points of this restaurant.

As the party progressed through the courses of appetizers, salads, and entrees the rest of the restaurant began to fill which obviously got the management hot and bothered.

By the time it was time for cake, which we supplied as Il Granaio didn't offer that service, the manager actually had the audacity and tackiness to tell our table openly that we had to leave because other tables were waiting. In addition, we were going to be charged an obnoxious amount per slice of cake cut. Again I shall reiterate that Il Granaio had not previously disclosed a cake cutting fee to us despite them knowing we were providing a specialty cake.

After the amount of money my mother spent at this establishment and NEVER being told we had a time to leave during our planning process with them, I find the behavior of management absolutely inexcusable, rude, and classless. I am embarrassed for them and their sheer ignorance.

I would NEVER RECOMMEND this restaurant to anyone. Not for an evening out. Not for authentic Italian dishes. And certainly not for a family gathering to celebrate. Management is absolutely disgustingly rude and the Italian fare can be described as marginal or meh at best. As others who have written reviews on this restaurant, I too agree that you can get MUCH BETTER Italian cuisine elsewhere.

As one of the guests who traveled for 2.5 hours to attend, I go back to my original words of "UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT" to describe my experience in this supposed "Italian Restaurant".

Bring your delightful bottle of wine...

Last night, we called last minute to try to get a reservation with ourselves and our infant daughter. Surprisingly, they were able to give us a reservation for about 30 minutes after we called.

We were seated quickly after we arrived and every working was absolutely on-point. Bussers/runners were friendly and polite, and our waiter Matt was 10/10. He was so sweet with our girl, attentive, and never made us feel rushed. He ended the meal by letting us know about a special gift we were being given by another table which truly made us choke up. Even besides this happening, the experience was stellar from start to finish.

We shared the octopus appetizer with more tender octopus than we had experienced at any restaurant on either coast. My wife's short rib tortelloni was rich and flavorful, a perfect serving size while being expertly prepared. I enjoyed the house-made gnocchi with braised pork cheeks that made me feel like I was back in Italy. The gnocchi was pillow soft and the cream sauce added a perfect balance of flavor without being overpowering. As a shared contorni with the entrees, we also had the cannellini beans with roasted broccoli rabe and garlic which you could smell wafting from across the restaurant. In the future, I might have to get my own side of it because it really was just that fabulous. It had been 2 years since we last visited, and at the end of the meal we couldn't understand why we had waited so long to visit again. Menu prices for value are definitely spot on, and the ability to BYO while still having a full bar truly provides the whole package. The night was so wonderful and we will absolutely be back. Thank you again to Matt and the staff for...

Poor management. Wish I could give this place 0 stars after the experience I just dealt with here. I will start off by saying I have eaten here several times before and it was a decent dining experience. However after my most recent trip to il granaio I will not be returning. I had planned a nice evening for my fiancee and myself and had tickets for an event at 7:30. We made a reservation at il granaio for 6:00. (We would soon learn that reservations mean nothing at this garbage establishment) So we walk in give the guy our name and he tells us we will have to wait a few minutes while our table was prepared. That's fine this is a common thing even though we had a reservation. So 10 to 15 minutes go by as larger reservation tables walk in and are sat immediately. So then the guy working the host stand casually walks up to us and informs us a larger table has come in earlier in the night with additional guests and that because of this we would have to wait an additional 45mins. So I understand his reasoning that it's a better financial decision to not piss off a 20 top for bringing in extra people and royally screw over a two top. Although I understand his reasoning, I do not agree with it one bit. So when I expressed I was displeased with this, he became incredibly rude. I was mad he did not offer any compensation, but I was even more mad that he didn't even say he was sorry. He knew when he sat those people earlier that he would screw over someone. And by the look on his face, he could care less. So then we were left to find a table somewhere at 6:30 which didn't happen. So thanks greasy il granaio manager for the...

4.5/5 We had just gotten to PA from out of town, and my mom was craving Italian and we were celebrating her birthday. We were too tired to drive into Philly with all the traffic and parking hassles. Luckily, I came across IL Granaio on yelp and they had ONE table available at 5:00. They were able to push it back to 5:15 for us since I had called in at 5:00. It's BYOW but we didn't have enough time to stop by and pick up wine before the reservation since it was about a 15 min drive from our hotel. They serve beer so you can't bring that but you can bring champagne or wine. They do NOT have a corkage fee. They have their own parking lot so no need to worry about parking. We self parked. Attire was casual. We were promptly seated. Ordered the lobster bisque, calamari, gamberi fra diavolo, and a pasta special that included scallops, shrimp, etc. My parents really enjoyed the lobster bisque. The calamari was good but the breading easily fell off. I really enjoyed the gamberi fra diavolo, which is a red sauce pasta. The pasta special was also good but maybe a tad bit dry. Waiter was great, but sometimes left before we had finished saying what we needed and/or forget to bring things back to us. It was really busy on his behalf but table service was a hit or miss. The tables were kind of close together, but when you are THIS popular they need to fit in all the chairs and tables they can. There were empty tables available when we got there but by the time we left it was PACKED! They do not offer a complimentary birthday treat Would recommend to out of towners. Counting my blessings for finding this place!

Omg I wish I ordered a meal to go for the next day because my little leftovers was such a tease. The food at Il Granio was BEYOND AMAZING! While it was a lil trek from the Philly area, wandering to Glen Mills for the Il Graniao experience was well worth it! It gives you authentic Italian vibes. From the complimentary bread & oil served at the beginning of the meal to the Limoncello shots to wrap up and send you home warm. Surprisingly there's a BYOB option although if you forget your bottle, no worries - there's a full service bar too. They offer outside tent dining (I'm thinking due to COVID), but I recommend indoor dining because it just has a nicer touch. Ask for Juan because he will take care of you! All portions are HUGE so be sure you save room for your entree if you do order appetizers as well. The Shrimp & Crab Ravioli was the BEST I've ever had - crabmeat was so lump, shrimp were plentiful, and the dish wasn't lacking on the sauce. While I'm not a big chicken eater, my friend ordered the Paccheri della Casa and it looked scrumptious and almost had me wanting to give it a try. Free parking and effectively priced menu for the big bang which Il Graniao delivers. I can't wait to dine here again!

We didn't plan on eating here tonight, but we're glad we did. Got rather busy as we were leaving, so they must be doing something right. They did ask if we had reservations, and even though we didn't, we were still seated, so not sure if it's required. I will say their chairs aren't that comfortable. They seemed to be well staffed, staff was attentive (water filled 3x), and the server was polite and helpful. Food came out fairly quick and beautifully presented. Food was fresh and delicious. I had the appetizer special; burata cheese wrapped in prosciutto on a bed of lettuce, cantaloupes, cherry tomatoes drizzled with balsamic and honey. Was soooo good. For dinner, my dad and I both had the dinner special, black & white pasta with crab meat and shrimp in a light white sauce, and my mom had pappardelle veal in a red sauce. All enjoyed with complimentary bread. Of course, my mom ordered a lemon cake for dessert, which we all shared a bite. All of that (no drinks accept for 1 coffee) came to about $130.00. Not a place I would financially eat regularly, but definitely good food and service.
