Please, do not give this restaurant your money. First of all -- I have never written a review before. However, this horrible restaurant compelled me to write something. My family has owned a home in Ruckersville, VA for over 30 years. We have tried every restaurant within a 15 mile radius throughout this time. I have been to El Jariepo 5 times. Two of which, I was 20 years of age. During those visits, I did not order alcohol and experienced mediocre service, but decent food. However, the last three times that my family has attended (since turning 21) I have had my ID scrutinized, bent, and myself been questioned as to whether it was mine. Disclaimer--I know Ruckersville is close to UVA. I know that being 21, I should have my ID checked. This is why I've handed it to my waitress before I even order my drink. Yet still, I've felt unwelcome, despite being with my family each and every time (my 70 year old father, not a group of young students). After voicing my irritation, we received awful service. I ordered three hard tacos, and then received two, which were undercooked and not how I ordered them. I ordered a large side of queso and did not receive it until I inquired. My father ordered white wine, and it came out hotter than any red wine I've ever consumed, when it should have been chilled. I ordered a medium Texas margarita and even after complaining, it was 90% sours and 10% liquor. My waitress, the one who has scrutinized my government issued VA ID, did not come back to our table at all, despite the restaurant being empty. My family will most likely never return here. If you are looking for a decent Mexican restaurant, go to the Charlottesville El Jariepo location (which we often frequent and have never had an issue with--despite it being in a literal college town) or El Agave, which is just down the road. Although I was dissatisfied with being hassled multiple times, what really forced me to write this review was the awful service and less than...
Read moreOK...I've been here a few times in the past, and the experience.has always been good. The food is decent, probably middle of the road, but not bad. That said, today was not, a pleasant experience. As soon as we were seated (my daughter and I) the waitress, Foby i believe, was right on top of us to take our order. I'm OK with getting drink orders taken before the seat is warm, but we didn't even open our menus yet. So, we requested a few minutes to look. Not more than a minute later, she was back to take our order, and we again requested a few minutes. This happened another 4 times, and quite frankly she started to get an attitude. We don't have Mexican cuisine on a regular basis so it's nice to see what is available and maybe have a chance to get something we'll like. I don't like to order the same thing and enjoy trying different items every visit. Once the order arrived, she returned to make sure everything was OK, and their carne asada missed the mark but was edible, and we said everything was OK. 5 minutes later, she's back to see if everything was OK, and we said 'yes'. 5 minutes later, you guessed it, she returned to see if everything was OK. This happened 3 more times during the course of our meal. I normally tip fairly well. I'm not rich, but I believe that if the service is decent, at a minimum I'll give $5 and up, but never less. The experince was miserable enough that no tip was left on this visit. Maybe if her attitude was more personal and not that of someone who really could care less it would be different, but,...
Read moreIve been here several times and in the beginning they were great! Last few times we ordered take out the orders were incorrect and I paid for food I didn’t receive. Not that big of a deal maybe $5-$10 over that last few months. No use in trying to explain to someone who speaks limited English over the phone what the issue was. Today we ordered food and I didn’t bother to check the bags before I left. Got home and one of my boys kids meals wasn’t in the bag. I called to see if the order was taken correctly and if I had paid for it. Someone (a man) came on the phone and with no luck understood what I was saying. So the lady who speaks the most English gets on the phone and begins to argue with me about how I only ordered one kids meal and only paid for one. I was like well I need two and there have been plenty of times you forgot food I DID PAY FOR. She said ok I make you anotherbkids meal and you can pay for it. I mentioned that it wasn’t my fault they took the order down wrong. She screamed at me and said YOU GONNA PAY OR NOT! I said I would have thought I would get better service being she knows I’m a loyal customer. But no. Service has really gotten bad. I don’t dine in anymore because thy helicopter service the tables and skinny their drinks. Try...
