Champs Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Coopersville

Never been to area. The rating was high online so our family decided to stop in. The atmosphere was typical bar setting. Dinning are had tables and high stools. When we arrived another lady took our drink order until our waitress was available. When Linda P (our waitress) took our order she struggled with the machine she had to use to place the order. We order mozzarella sticks for the appetizer which were warm and good when they arrived. When Linda brought our appetizer she didn’t bring plates. No I don’t want to eat off the bar table. When Linda brought our meals she quickly removed our appetizer plate and never returned to fill drinks or ask us how our meal was. She looked at our table multiple times noticing that my fiancé was not eating his food and continued to go back and forth to the table next to us checking in but avoiding our table. After we put our jackets on Linda finally reappeared asking if we needed the check. She removed plates and not once asked how our food was noticing his food was untouched and my daughter had barely ate hers. My daughter ordered the nachos and at no place on the menu did it say it had onions on it. My fiancé ordered the French dip which had the bun so smashed it couldn’t absorb any of the sauce. The sauce was extremely watered down and the meat was terribly over seasoned. When we brought this up to the waitress she got defensive and never offered to have a manger come talk to us. She continued to check the menu in front of us and noticed that the nacho did not say onions on it and made a remark to a bar tender about it. When she brought me back my card she said she applied a discount. I can’t believe they didn’t remove the cost of the nachos they had wrongly made compared to the menu. If anything I should have had someone in charge come talk to us about the situation in a non hostile manner. I would not recommend this place. My burger was not good either but their food was terrible. This was to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my family and I’m very upset with the quality of the food and the service I received.

Update: I did call back the next day and spoke with a manger. She was very friendly and completely understood where we were coming from. She did talk to the waitress about how to make the situation better for the next guests. She also read my review and knew who I was when I called which made me feel like they are striving to make their guests happy. She agreed to make it right refunding me for what was wrong. I’m very thankful that she understood and made me calling back...

We ordered last week and I spent like $80 on food which is fine, however a mushroom and Swiss burger we ordered tasted so bad, like it was old and had sat for a long time. The cheese was barely melted and the burger was dry and hard, as well as the bottom bun being hard as a rock. Then a cup of coleslaw in the order was maybe half full, which was a huge disappointment. We opened our pretzels appetizer and the queso dip had spilled all over the pretzels, which wasn't a huge deal, but obviously the lid was not secured on the cup properly. Any time we ever order fried foods, they're so soggy you can barely eat them. An order of breaded mushrooms had the breading falling right off when you would go to grab one, like they had sat for a long time. I messaged the Facebook page to let them know about this issue, because I'm a pretty frequent customer and drop a lot of money here.. however they couldn't even answer me at all, despite their page saying they message back within an hour or so. I'm just overall very disappointed.. It would have been nice for somebody to at least acknowledge the issue and maybe see what they can do better next time. I'm sure I'm not the only one having this happen, and I probably won't be back anytime soon after their huge lack of decent customer service, but also because the food was not good. Even though I've lived in Coopersville for going on 9 years, I've only been to Champs 1 time other than today. I tell you, I have been missing out! My daughter and I decided to go there for lunch. We picked a table outside on their patio, which is cute, quaint and secluded. However, we were greeted immediately by our server who suggested we take a table indoors because of more than normal Bee's had been hanging around. That was super appreciated because I happen to be really allergic to them. Our server was the absolute best! She was energetic and fun! It was a slow time for the place and it was awesome to be able to chat with her. Personally, she is my kind of people which made our interactions even better! The entire service was quick and our food came out so fast, I had to give it a few minutes to cool. I ordered the fried mushrooms and my daughter got mozz sticks and the Reuben sandwich. Do I even have to say the food was delicious!? It was. If you haven't tried Champs Bar & Grill, I really can't recommend it enough. The service is incredible and the affordable food is amazing!
