Frazier's is the kind of bakery & restaurant that every small town should have. No fuss, simple and friendly. It's the kind of place my grandpa would have enjoyed...which might be why I enjoy it so much. The coffee is self-serve, hot and cheap. The donuts, fritters, walnut bran muffins and ice-box cookies are all delicious. I generally don't eat here for their meals, just their bakery items and coffee. There's always a group of older men sitting around talking to their group, as well as to the other patrons.
I've ordered their carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for special occasions several times over the years. The flavor is excellent. One of my favorite carrot cakes ever.
Funny story...the last time I ordered it for a special occasion, a retirement party back in 2019, it was to be presented to the recipient with a carefully worded congratulatory message in front of 50 coworkers, I opened the box only to find that I could hardly read what was written on it. It was written with very shaky, squiggly penmanship in a cold, black icing atop the white cream cheese frosting. There would be no do-overs. It looked a bit...over-the-hill or morbid. At first I was upset, but then I found it amusing given that my friend was retiring after a long career and maybe deserved a bit of teasing. He and I had a good laugh about it afterwards.
Hopefully steadier hands are at the helm now, but you might want to ask about the decorator doing the writing, find out what color of icing will be used, and ask for a sample of their writing, before you order that...
Read moreOMG everything I have had here is outrageously good. Maple bars, onion cheese bread, garlic loaf, doughnuts, cake. Seriously. It's all good. The staff are always welcoming and friendly too. Update August 2023 Since the economy is in crisis, donut prices have gone up from $1 each to $1.25 or $1.50. It's not the worst thing in the world, but they have noticeably reduced the amount of icing on the maple bars.
The icing used to be thick and applied generously like frosting. Now it looks like it's applied with a lightly dipped paint brush and doesn't even cover the entire top of the bar. The icing is also thinner in consistency.
Conclusion: Instead of the maple bars being frosted edge to edge like they used to be, now they are just lightly glazed with thin icing down the center of the bar.
Yeah, it's a big deal to me. Texture and presentation are important. The reduction in quality with raised prices is yet another sad example of shrinkflation.
I will return one day to try again. Maybe I'll try the onion bread next.
If I discover that my latest maple bar experience wasn't a fluke and that there are quality issues with multiple products, I would sadly have to change my rating.
Please Frazier's, don't change the quality of your ingredients and products. I would happily pay a higher price for the excellent quality that I expect from you. 💜 Maybe I could only afford one donut instead of two or three, but it's a worthy sacrifice for...
Read moreI've given them a 2 because the cake that I had ordered, and was very specific in my instructions was not the cake that I received. It was sunken on one end, not even level. I drew them a picture of what I wanted and even took them a clay pigeon so they would know specifically what I wanted. I ordered a German chocolate cake with raspberry filling instead of the normal German chocolate cake coconut filling. What I got was the raspberry filling on top of the german chocolate coconut filling which wasn't what I wanted. I specifically asked them to make sure the raspberry filling didn't have seeds. It did. The writing was correct, but the clay pigeon was unrecognizable. I'm very disappointed since I ordered a custom cake and expected professional quality, and I didn't get it. I won't be ordering...
