Tacos & Carnitas Pepe’s — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

Came here for lunch on a whim because I was craving al pastor tacos. I ended up getting one pastor and one lengua. Both tacos were loaded with meat, which is always super appreciated! My mouth was watering from the smell!

The pastor was pretty good, I finished the whole thing and barely had room for the 2nd one. I have to say that although the pastor taco was good, I do prefer the pastor that is prepared on a spit or trompo as it's so much more flavorful. This new trend of tacos joints using or chopped up bits of marinted pork is just not the same, and sadly, everyone seems to be doing that now.

The lengua taco was not for me as it was a bit too chewy. I tried a bite without sauce and then one with the red sauce, but I couldn't make it through it. The red and green sauce were both good, but the green was my favorite. Especially to dip the chips they give you into.

Food was decent. First time around had the tacos dorados, folded, that were very good! Second time around I had a carne asada quesadilla and that was ok. The meat was a bit rough and chewy. Customer service can be improved, especially near closing. It’s in a small shopping center where you can usually find parking. Food is good I love the chicken burritos!!! The staff is friendly and hire young employees with a positive attitude. They have a wide selection of foods and is very tasty. Solid place to grub!
