We visit CG a few times each year to fish and discovered Saddlerock 3-4 trips ago. Each time we are in CG, we make sure to stop in at least once.
I believe that I have tried every item on the breakfast menu and have loved every bite of it.
This past weekend, we went in and found that they stop serving breakfast at 11. I was heartbroken. I had not felt this level of disappointment since getting my brand new whopper plopper stuck in a tree on the first cast. It was a really really heartbreaking experience.
Then Amy, our amazing server, answered some basic questions regarding their lunch menu including telling me about their fresh cut fries and I settled on my lunch order. I went with the philly cheesesteak sandwich and their amazing tater tots. After the first bite of my amazing sandwich, I knew that everything was going to be OK.
We had such a great time for lunch on Saturday that we went back on Sunday. Our group of 4 all ordered the chicken fried steak. We also ordered a cup of chili and a couple of cinnamon rolls for starters. The CFS was absolutely wonderful. The steak was nice and tender with a nice crispy but not burnt crust. Amy does not bring you steak knives as you'll be able to cut it with a fork.
I know we'll be back in 2 weeks, it is a question of whether we'll be there for breakfast or lunch as it appears that it is impossible to go wrong.
TLDR: Amy, breakfast, sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, chili, CFS are...
Read moreService wasnt great. Was the first group in there for lunch and the Waitress took 5 or minutes to help us. Not a big deal she seemed occupied, but two other small groups came in and she ended up taking their orders first. (that may be a little petty, but it's how it started) Then, she mixed up one of our orders with one of the other tables. So we all had to wait to get that straightened out. In the meantime other groups came in and she took their orders even though you could hear the bell from the kitchen indicating orders were ready. All of our food ended up being luke warm at best. Only saving grace was the (I assume) owner approached us asking how our meal was and the one guy that spoke up he comped half the price. Owner seemed to genuinely care. Overall if the service created a better experience, I'd consider going back, but being from out of town I...
Read moreI ate here two mornings while I was in Council Grove. Excellent! Biscuits and gravy the first morning (was thrilled to find homemade sausage gravy!), eggs, loaded hash browns, bacon and toast Sunday morning. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was actually crisp just like I ordered! Great service! Had two different waitresses, both very good! The one from Saturday remembered me and asked if I got the cranberry orange bread this time! I sure did! You HAVE to try their homemade breads! So good! I think I’ll be full the rest of the day! Thank you Saddlerock for a perfect start to my days! I will definitely be...
