What we saw was beautiful but we were disappointed that there was a detour in Strong City. Not knowing the area, we drove an hour out of our way and missed the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. We had to rush thru Council Grove and the trip took about 5 hours of driving.

My ride down KS 177 was on June 6, 2024. Clear skies, decent temperatures, light traffic. Definitely take time to stop at the scenic pull offs and read about the history, geology, flora, and fauna. Allow time to visit the tall grass Prairie park as well.

Definitely worth the drive. Be sure to tune into AM 1680 for a guided tour along the byway. The wind was brutal so we didn't get to walk the trails. Next time.🤞
