I have been going to Picks for a few years now so when I heard that they were opening Smoke on the Water I was very excited. My friend and I went yesterday for lunch and we were both a little disappointed. We each ordered a bbq bowl and a drink. The flavor of the food and drink were excellent. However, we both felt that the bowl and the drink were very small for the price. The bbq bowl was $16 and was only filled halfway. We were both still hungry after we finished our bowls and my friend ended up ordering a side of sweet potato fries. I refused to order anything else because honestly I should't need to order an additional side with my meal to get full. We agreed the starch part needs to be doubled to justify the $16 price point. We both ordered the painkiller. Prices were not listed on the drink menu. The drinks came in what looked like 8oz cups. We were surprised to find out they cost $12. Another thing that was disappointing was that when we first arrived we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. It was a nice day so we chose outside. We were told there was a limited menu since it was the official opening weekend. I kept wondering as I stared at the food and drink menu where all the bourbon stuff was. I just figured there wasn't any at the moment with the limited menu. After we already had our bbq bowls and drinks I asked the waitress if there was a difference between menus inside and outside. It was at that point that she mentioned their bourbon drinks are only offered inside. Being the opening weekend and our first time there I think that is something that should have been mentioned when we were given the option of where to sit. Neither of us complained to our waitress or management because while we were there several others already were. I think this place has a lot of potential, but until a few things change I will...
Read moreMy wife and I were super excited to try this restaurant over the weekend, but we left disappointed. We sat the outside bar, it took the bartenders 20 minutes to give us menus and even greet us. We ordered the pick two, brisket and turkey, with chips and fries. The meat was pretty good. The sides not so much, the fries were cold and the chips did not have any seasoning on them.
This is the most frustrating part. None of the drinks on the menu we were given had prices listed. I ordered a frozen margarita and my wife ordered a Paloma. Both drinks were bad and we had a couple of sips and didn't even finish them. We tried to see if we could get the drinks removed from our bill (the drinks were $30!), but the bartenders never and came back to check on us (they closed our tab after we ordered the food). I tried flagging one down multiple times and they said 'Give me one second.'
After about 20 minutes trying to see if we could get the drinks removed, we left in frustration. I just can't believe we paid $30 for drinks that we couldn't even finish because they were poorly made. There was also a party sitting across from us and they mentioned their drinks did not taste good and we had two people approach the bartender to ask for their drinks to be remade while sitting at the bar.
Lastly, after receiving the bill (which was not itemized), there was a 'surcharge fee' listed. Not sure what this was for, maybe because I paid with a credit card, but I was not given prior notice that an additional fee would occur.
I always want to see local business do well and try to give the benefit of doubt, but our experience was an...
Read moreVery confusing experience, the hostess inside quoted us a 20 min wait. I went back after 25 min just to check in, and she said “actually it’s going to be another hour”. I asked a few questions because I didn’t understand how this happened. She referenced the outside host being different than the inside, even though she asked if we wanted inside or outside when we came in. She also didn’t tell us there was any difference between inside or outside, when there clearly was (we found out later). She also said she “had been hearing” that there was a 2 hour wait for the patio, and told us the restaurant next door had no wait at all. I checked with the hostess outside who said it would only be about 20 minutes. We waited closer to 30min but no big deal, we finally got sat. We came for the craft cocktails which weren’t offered outside, and our server also told us draft beer was not available outside. Our drinks were taking awhile to arrive so we asked if we could order, and our server said “don’t worry the food is coming out really fast”, trying to deter us from ordering that minute. I told her we had been waiting here for an hour so we really did want to eat soon and she finally agreed to take our order. The food then did not come quickly. It took a standard amount of time but after her saying it would come quickly we weren’t expecting that long of a wait. Food was very good and our server was attentive. Overall, if the communication had been better It would’ve been a good experience. Definitely recommend trying it out but be aware that sitting inside is necessary to get the full experience, I wish we had been told that...
