Boscoe's Place — Restaurant in Covington

I don’t usually write reviews but it isn’t often that you get both great service and great food at the same time. It’s a well deserved review. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile now. We ventured out last weekend not knowing there was a water advisory, but that didn’t affect our experience whatsoever. This place is nothing short of amazing! From the minute you walk in, it looks like a modern, finer atmosphere. It is a very welcoming place. We started with their version of a mozzarella cheese stick, forgive me for not remembering the name. It was a serving of four with a side of their pizza sauce. I am a sucker for cheese sticks and these were some of the best I have ever had. They were the size of an egg roll. As I understood they make them in house with wonton wrappers. For ten bucks, you definitely get your money’s worth. You have to try them. For dinner I had boneless wings with sweet Thai chili sauce and onion rings. Their sauce was perfect. It had a kick that hit just right. Now, their onion rings…. I cannot wait to have them again. The portion was huge. As full as I was I could not stop eating them. The batter they used was delicious. They tasted fresh, were not overly fried, or battered. They had a sweetness to them and that perfect crunch. Loved them! I didn’t leave one behind. I can’t go without saying anything about their ranch. They have some of the best ranch. I used it for my onion rings and my wings. Super good stuff! They could bottle that stuff to sell. What is not to love? We had the most enjoyable experience at Boscoe's. There were 5 of us on a girls night out. We walked in to a very nicely decorated entry with a large picture of Boscoe. Very easy street access. There were booths, high tops and regular tabkes and chairs. We were sat at a high top. The evening began with Shannon, our server, who was an absolute dream. She was so informative, answered questions, very attentive, kind, and had a great sense of humor. She was our kind of people. The drinks were great. We had an old fashioned, a smoky old fashioned, margarita, and ginger mules. Personally, my smoky old fashioned was fab, and she smoked it right at the table. Nice presentation, but most importantly, the flavor was tops. We started out with fried pickle chips that were lightly breaded and super good. Also tried the garlic parmesan treats. And they were a treat! Two of us got the tenderloin sandwich and we were not disappointed. Nice size tenderloin, not oversized like a dinner plate. But still larger than the bun. It was lightly breaded so you could actually taste the tenderloin. I would definitely get this again. As my side I chose doodles. What are doodles you ask? We did too! They are scrumptious. They were described to us as potato wedges with a twist. I would liken it more to a steak fry with a twist. So, so good. Others shared the Margherita pizza and said it was tasty. We stopped to try something new, the service staff was very friendly and attentive, repeatedly checking on us throughout our meal and taking care of all our needs. The atmosphere was like modern farmhouse meets gastro pub. Clean but not overly welcoming. The food was not outstanding, but it wasn't bad either. I expected more for the cost, especially when my daughter got an order of boneless wings, roughly $12 and only 6 medium to small size boneless wings.

The chicken sandwich while cooked well, was extremely unseasoned and plain relying on the bun and sandwich add ons for flavor. The fries looked good but did not live up to that standard upon tasting.

My burger was better than average with the bacon cooked perfectly. The fried pickles were on par with most places, but the real attention food wise was the tater doodles. Thick cut curly slices of potatoes fried like a French fry. Perfectly cooked and seasoned I would definitely recommend those over the fries.

All in all, the outstanding service we received and the tater doodles were the best part of our meal. This wouldn't be my first choice to come back to, but I wouldn't mind trying...
