Gwen's Island Diner — Restaurant in Covington

This Jamaican restaurant is a hidden Gem in Covington, GA! Being Jamaican born and raised myself, I take special interest in finding and trying different Jamaican restaurants when I come across them near and far! As of February 2023, and as far as I know, this is 1 of 2 Jamaican restaurants in Covington. Though I haven’t tried the other restaurant as yet, Ms. Gwen has me loyal to her restaurant as her food is authentic and makes me feel so nostalgic! Here are a few reasons why I am loyal to this restaurant: The Oxtail is soft, juicy, and seasoned just right! The Jerk chicken, both the spicy and the sweet is really tasty. Her chicken soup tastes and feels like a nurturing mother’s home cooked soup and just-what-the-doctor-orders when you need a soup to help you recover from a cold or flu, which is SOOO needed this flu/winter season. Additionally, my favourite thing about the soup from Ms. Gwen’s is that it is not too salty, unlike so many chicken soups around.

Though there are other items on the menu, these are the only items I cycle through each time I go there, as I REALLY like what I like.

Just left this restaurant. I've eaten there before. It's been a while. First .I'll say the food was good. Customer service sucks. I asked how many pieces of meat come with the order. The young lady said the chef will not allow that. I asked again. She said the same thing .I was asking because I was trying to decide whether to get the $29.99or$36.00 order .Obviously she misunderstood what I was asking. Nothing in this world is free. I work for a living .I would never ask for anything extra ,if I wasn't paying for it. She takes the order back and proceeds to tell whoever was back there about the conversation she had all wrong. I heard whoever was fixing the food say she's not getting it . So now I'm confused.I'm not getting what? I couldn't hear everything she said but she mentioned something about me apologizing .For what ?because you misunderstood. I've never had a problem before when I went there. I started to ask for my money back after hearing some of what she thought she heard. But I decided to wait . I just want eat there anymore .I hope she doesn't do that with anyone else. I meant to write a review yesterday,however the day got away from me. Yesterday was My husband's and I second time ordering from here. Only this time we were smart enough to order two extra sides of plantains which were just delicious. Especially our first order bc they were nice and brown , just cooked to perfection. My husband gets the Curry chicken with rice and peas from here and he has loved it both times. Which is rare because he's very picky with island food because his mother is such an amazing cook herself. He's from St. Lucia and rates this place in one of the top places to go around here.
