El Chingon Mexican & Southern Restaurant — Restaurant in Cowpens

Second visit to give another try. Very small portions and the food was bland. Extra charge for everything, including cheese. Cheese that did NOT come with the food. We never asked for extra cheese! Salsa has too much black pepper in it and they need to learn how to make it. Its not good. Undercooked onions on food items. Beef in the tacos was hard to find and did not come with cheese. I asked for cheese so i could put it on my Taco because no cheese was on it. Was told that there is a charge for the cheese to put on it. What??. Charged for ice water. Owner said they do not charge for ice water but i surely was charged for it and after reading other customer reviews of this place, they were charged too!! I never got any cheese, so the owner is wrong sauing they have to charge for extra cheese for my order because i never asked for extra cheese, i asked for cheese that was not in my taco to begin with! Small bowl of cheese dip is so tiny for the cost. Had to get up and ask for drink refills. We just couldn't eat the food, but we paid for it and left. Staff is rude and so is the remarks for non flattering reviews of this place from other customers, please read them! Food is much more flavorful with excellent service in Spartanburg at other Mexican restaurants. We will not be back. What a shame for the town of Cowpens. Rude of the owner to lash out at customer reviews instead of trying to learn from them and correcting the problems with his food and staff so that his restaurant can be a source of pride and a place that customers would want to come to and enjoy their food and eating experience. Dinner. Came in to order takeout. Waited and waited for service..they were not busy. Ordered street corn, beef tacos. Chicken quesadilla, rice and beans. We live three blocks from this restaurant and can see it from our front yard. The street corn was not wrapped and flopped around in a huge to go container. It was cold. The Tacos had a tablespoon of meat and same for cheese and covered in lettuce. Should have been more meat and cheese for the price. Each was in a small square to go box and not wrapped in foil. All should have been wrapped in foil and all could have been put in a large square go box to kerp hot for the customer, instead of being separated. All were Cold with the orange grease dryed onto the inside of each box. The chicken quesadilla was very warm, but was sliding around in warm grease inside of the to go box. It was not grilled as much as it should be. It was more of a slightly grilled tortilla with the filling falling out. The rice and beans were slightly warm. The tiny cups of salsa was not good. Way too much black pepper in it and more of a pureed tomato sauce instead of salsa. They need a way better recipe. We live Three Blocks Away!. This food should have been cooked properly and each wrapped up in foil to stay hot for the customer. The staff needs to know how to use to go boxes to keep foot hot and they need to learn how to make salsa that tastes good instead of burning your mouth with black pepper. Leave the black pepper out! Better food at yellow mall and in Spartanburg. We want to support local restaurants but this place clearly needs to rethink how they prepare...

Food was out of this world!!! My first visit wasn’t that great with the tacos but my grandpa wanted to try this place so i gave this place a second chance! Our Waitress Which i had to get her name off a young server who was working a shift with her. Me and My 81 year old grandpa walk in and patiently wait to be seated. But my grandpa decided to walk towards the restroom and this prune of a waitress Yelled “You need to wait to be seated!!” in a aggressive tone. : Now i understand it’s a restaurant you’re busy during Lunch rush hour but that kind of attitude is unnecessary. The whole time we were there i kept overhearing The waitress grope and complain about how busy she was and very impatient with Us i had to keep asking the other waiter (who was very pleasant and nice to us) for Necessities Such as The bill, Togobox, Silverware , Etc. I don’t know if she was having a bad day or Just has a poor attitude all around But She needs to be gone IMMEDIATELY SHE IS RUINING YOUR RESTAURANTS NAME!!!
