39 West Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in Cranston

Talk about a terrific turn-around...this place takes the prize! I have lived out of state for many years but would pop into 39 West with family now and then. Nice enough, crowd a little too "mature" for my taste even as a "40 something" but the food was good and the bands were a good time too so it was fine for what it is. Now I am back in town and learned that earlier this year, new ownership took over the place. What a difference...the two repositoned bars are sheek and modern but the decor (bar and tables) are still comfortable. The crowd is leaning a little younger (30-40's +) so it's nice for young and mid-level professionals, but still the older folks can enjoy it as well. The food is really good Ital-American comparable to the surrounding area vibe. Apparently, they kept the chef but he elevated the menu so it's even better than before. I was super impressed by the service (considering how they had to shut down so soon after opening re: Covid) and some of the servers are still new. We got prompt and friendly service outside, the owners made their rounds to check on everyone and take feedback. We also got to hear more about their entertainment bill. They are still doing popular motown bands, just adding in some more modern flavor in the rotation, Was thrilled to see a video clip of the "hiphop violinist" they had last week and will go back for that . Obviously, I am super impressed with the new order (which does not always happen when new blood take over a staple place in the community). As a Google Level-7 Master Reviewer, a Local Guide, and a restaurant reviewer in the top 10 percent in RI, I hope this review persuades readers to give 39 West a try.

I was one in a party of four; we were instantly seated. Each of us was equally satisfied with both the quality of our meals and the service. From the first bite, it was obvious that 39 West invests in the best and most authentic ingredients, yet somehow manages to keep its prices competitive compared to local less-than-average restaurants. The portions were abundant and arranged to pique one's appetite. My eyes and palette were satisfied with each bite. The only upset was achieving the inevitable empty plate.

The wait staff was friendly and accommodating without being intrusive. The spacing between the tables facilitated easy navigation. The place was clean and minimally decorated will old-world charm. The bar selection was more than ample and the patrons at the bar were quiet and civilized.

Excellent traditional Italian food with a large and extensive daily specials menu and exceptional service, located in a strip mall in an area of Cranston that boasts many small Italian restaurants. It was quiet the night that we had dinner, which was Thursday (after Christmas.) We all ordered from the specials menu and really enjoyed our meals. We ordered a pasta dish... linguine w clam sauce and salad, excellent...a salmon special that looked amazing, and a chicken special that was served over a bed of arugula, and another chicken special that was served with potatoes and veggies. We began our meal with bread, rolls and evoo with roasted garlic for dipping. We all loved our food. We ordered a few different desserts that were good and huge in portion.
