We had a last minute change of plans for dinner, and were able to get a reservation for five. In a small mountain town, you never really know quite what to expect for food or service. There are inherent challenges to running a good kitchen in a small town that is isolated from major population centers or supply routes. There's a challenge to find skilled personnel. There's a thousand things working against the kitchen.
Well, this restaurant absolutely crushes it. The service first: front of house does a brilliant job. The restaurant was extremely busy but the staff just got it done, and did so with humor and a genuinely friendly attitude. Cheerful and fun wait staff, hosts always on their feet, everything being attended to despite how very busy they were. We never felt an absence of thoughtful attention.
Then the food. Oh my goodness the food. Our table, talkers and pretty obnoxious at that, were stunned into just being able to talk about how great the food was. Every dish was fantastically prepared, and you can tell that serious thought and skilled effort went into each and every bite. The skill on display for everything from a burger to a brilliant plate of eggplant and couscous was remarkable, and would be in a town of any size. We were entirely and completely blown away by the quality of every bite.
Add to this the excellent bar, with creative and thoughtfully prepared cocktails, and the general vibe, the art and ambience and attention to details. All of it made for a truly memorable and exceptional meal that we won't...
Read moreLocation for this hotel is perfect! Right in the center of town so easy to walk anywhere. My issues with the hotel were cleanliness. There was trash on our floor - a pink gasx pill, candy wrapper, some plastic thing - all easy to see on the floor if you actually cleaned it. When we went to make coffee the old coffee/filter was still in the coffee pot. GROSS! Things to note: You need to climb, with luggage, a very steep set of steps to get to your room. There is no front desk so getting a hold of anyone is difficult and time consuming. The code to get into the building did not work so we had to wait to get in until the manager arrived, sitting on the street with our luggage. The building is very old and our room was very slanted, even the bed - could be considered charming for an old, historic building. When we arrived the room was very hot and the window was open with a standing fan. The only problem with that is there are no screens on the windows. The fan did not provide a whole lot of relief so it was quite hot all night, even with the window open. We did dine at the restaurant for dinner and the food was very good! The service could have been better. I was ignored when trying to get someone's attention. They looked right at me and turned away. Be sure to make a reservation, as...
Read moreWe stayed in the Masterson’s Room at the Creede Hotel and really enjoyed the historic charm of the place. The room itself was comfortable, with a nice porch that made for a relaxing spot to unwind, and the hotel’s atmosphere gave us a true sense of Creede’s history.||Our room had a private shower at the end of the hall, which worked fine except that the water was squirting all over the ceiling and into the rest of the bathroom — a bit less than ideal. Still, it was manageable for a one-night stay, and everything else about the hotel was welcoming and comfortable.||The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure every detail of our stay was enjoyable. The restaurant is a highlight on its own: the menu is creative, the food is consistently delicious, and the portions are generous. From breakfast through dinner, every meal we had was memorable. They had live music the night we stayed there and boy was it worth it. ||Overall, a really nice place to stay for the night if you appreciate history and character — just be prepared for a few quirks that come with a historic...
