Poppy's Barbecue — Restaurant in Crump

I have passed by this place many many times and never stopped. I was passing by and noticed them open so I decided today would be the day. I try different barbecue places all over West Tennessee as I do a lot of traveling as I work.

I ordered the small rib plate which comes with three ribs. I chose macaroni and cheese and coleslaw as my side items.... water to drink. $17.01 after charging 4% card fee

A little steep for that in my opinion but OK...

The best item on my plate was the coleslaw... it was well seasoned and crunchy and cold and quite tasty. The macaroni and cheese was basically mush... almost as if it was a day or two old and they just keep reheating it until it's all gone? The ribs were definitely tender but they were almost as mushy as the macaroni and cheese. I literally pulled the bone off of a mushy pile of meat....it was pretty much pot roast...No discernible smoke flavor whatsoever to them... I dipped them in some of the mild and hot sauce that was on the table to give it some semblance BBQ flavor...the sauces were quite tasty and the hot definitely had a kick to it...it was pretty much crock pot pork with BBQ sauce on it...

I wish I could say I had a great dining experience here but the food was just not very good? I know everybody has an off day but this was... not good...

I will stop by again and maybe try something different and if I have a better experience I will edit this review.... I got the ribs because everyone talked so highly of them.... I just didn't have the same experience... ...

I just picked up food for the family from here the second time this week. I just looked at my receipt and you charged me an extra undisclosed "Service Charge". I guess this extra undisclosed fee is for the privilege of ordering food from you? You also asked for a tip on my to go order in addition to the undisclosed service charge. Put the real price of the product on the menu prices and stop adding predatory undisclosed fees. Our family will not be doing any business with you in the future and if I have time I'll be contacting my bank and disputing that charge that I was never informed of until I read the receipt and you had already charged me. This is not the way to run a business and treat your customers. The extra charge was only ~$1. It is...

Such a lovely place. This WAS a lovely place. Although the food was great last time I was here. Not a warm reception today. Husband is disabled, we have been warmly welcomed in the past visits with our service dog. However today was not the case. We were told the lovely lady who had been there in the past who served us was not employed there anymore. The gentleman was willing to serve us on the cold porch, said we could not have a service dog inside the restaurant. So we left. And if a service dog cannot do there job , then we will not eat there.
