I loved the breakfast so much I came back 3 days later! On my first trip my friend and I ordered mimosas 2 specials one was the Greek omelet and the second one was a half order of lemon pound cake French toast, Crepes with berries we also ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and sausage. Yes we know that this is a lot of food for 2 but to be honest we weren't sure about a omelet with kalamata olives in it or the lemon pound cake French toast with berries and a white chocolate cream cheese topping. Starting with the mimosa it was perfectly made. Our coffee was hot and our waitress kept our cups full. Our breakfast was outstanding everything was so good that I couldn't pick a favorite of the 2 specials they were both so delicious. On my second trip I went on a Sunday morning we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table and it was well worth the wait. This time I was with 2 different friends and again we ordered specials and regular menu items. We had Bloody Mary's the had a nice kick to them so I really enjoyed them. We tried the sweet potato hash Benedict we asked them to make the Greek omelet that they had for a special 3 days earlier and without hesitation it was a yes. We tried the pancake special that had apples and cinnamon butter and the lemon pound cake French toast. Once again everything was fantastic the eggs on the Benedict where perfectly poached. I highly recommend...
Read moreThe Modern Bistro is a nice little restaurant - one would dare call it quaint. The decor is comforting and has a bit of charm to it, but the chairs are the Devil incarnate. They are these torturous metal constructs that define discomfort easily.
Atmosphere and a sore bottom aside, the food is really rather good. I got the Near East Wrap, which is a perfect lunch for the hit and humid day on which I stopped in.
The muhammara is sweet and delightful, playing off of the briney olives and savory hummus. The tortilla it comes on has a chew to it, and the lettuce is crisp, giving a wide variety of textures to what could be a very mushy experience if the dish was not as well thought out.
It came with a side of homemade potato chips which had no real flavor aside from oil and potato. I would have liked to see something more interesting there. Bread and butter pickles were also on the side, and their sweetness was a good compliment to the wrap.
Over the years, I've eaten here a few times and I've never been disappointed. I just need to bring a cushion with me for...
Read moreAs you can see from many of my other reviews... It is VERY rare I give 1 star.. On Saturday, my friend and I ordered two eggs Benedict's with a side of extra hollandaise. The eggs Benedict was boxed up with the worst overcooked egg I've ever seen... It was HARD and nearly crunchy. The English muffin was not toasted. The extra hollandaise sauce quite literally resembled the color and texture of a very thick mayonnaise. And on top of this - the whole dish had literally 0 flavor. It is as if they just used egg. Bread. And unsalted butter. Only 3 ingredients. With the dish being $9.99... this somehow all came out to $29.87..... As someone who prides themselves on cooking great meals as well as strongly supports restaurants - this was a huge disappointment.
Not to mention - the hostess who was at the front desk and retrieved my food was rude, dismissive, and not helpful in any way. After saying "have a great day and weekend!" , I got a nice eye roll and a "mm. Ya. Thanks"
I would not suggest this...
