This is my first time ever posting a restaurant review on Google, and I was hoping my first review would be positive. Unfortunately, this is not the case. And clearly bad enough that it warranted posting.
My bf and I ordered delivery through DoorDash tonight. If you know DD, you know prices are typically $1-$3 higher per item than dining in or picking it up yourself. That being said, I definitely will pay for the convenience factor - I get it - I’m making the decision. Therefore I also compare similar food items across different restaurants when ordering. Hello! We’re all pinching pennies these days, meanwhile understanding that food costs for restaurants have increased like crazy.
We ordered a large Paolo’s Special Neapolitan - $26.45. Description said - sweet peppers, onions, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and extra cheese. Figured it was a good deal since their plain Neapolitan cheese pizza is $16 (and extra toppings are $3.45 each - Geezus!!) Chicken parmesan entree was $24 with two sides - got a side salad and Italian wedding soup. Bruschetta appetizer - $10ish.
We opened the pizza box and while there were a plethora of toppings, I couldn’t find cheese. We both looked at each other and said, “didn’t it say extra cheese?” I picked off toppings to find a semblance of cheese - and it was as if someone forgot to put any cheese on.
The bruschetta was a nice portion, but the bread was so soggy, and instead of using fresh basil (like most places), it was like dried oregano or something I couldn’t decipher. No thanks.
I think the most disappointing was the chicken parmesan. It literally tasted like school cafeteria chicken parm with Prego or Ragu sauce and about 4 bites worth of spaghetti. The breading on the chicken was burnt or overcooked or something and I could barely cut into it. You know those frozen Encore brand chicken parm family dinners? This was about on par with that. For people who review this place and say it’s the best Italian, my advice is that you should probably try more places.
The Italian wedding soup had almost a weird liqueur/too much of a citrus taste. Unbalanced. Blech.
The best part was probably the side salad that’s sitting in the fridge - which doesn’t say much.
We hate wasting food around here - eat leftovers, and RARELY throw anything away. I will probably throw out everything tomorrow because if it wasn’t good the first time, it’s definitely not going to be good tomorrow.
For $74 for 3 items (including tip), I don’t think I will give this place a second chance. Maybe they had an off night. I’m sure it’s a good sports bar. But with SOOO many other Italian/pizza/sandwich places around here, I’ll spend my money elsewhere, and stick to my stand-bys.
*Reason we ordered from here tonight was because Juliana’s was closed for door dash orders. They have chicken parm for $21.95 with homemade tagliatelle and a chicken breast the size of of your head - and it’s AMAZING! Enough for 2-3 meals...
Read moreI want to open up with that I’m Italian and this was the saddest excuse for an Italian restaurant/pizzaria I’ve encountered in this area. My family and I live in the area and we decided to try Paolo’s after not going for ten years, and I’m just going to say that we definitely won’t be stepping in here for the next hundred years.
We walked in and saw there were 3$ drafts on Fridays from 4-6pm and were pretty happy about that because it was 5pm but when we got into the restaurant, they tried to seat us near the bar where it smelled highly chemical from the wet paint in the room over. So we asked to sit in a room completely away from the bar, which only started our downfall.
When asked for beer and the waitress came back with our beer and told us that the special was only available.... at the bar. Which was not listed anywhere. So that was pretty messed up. At least don’t advertise the drinks at the sit down tables if that’s the case.
Anyway, we ordered calamari and it looked like broken fish sticks from the bottom of the bag, and the calamari was so salty and old tasting that I’m hoping that we don’t get food poisoning from it. We all ate one piece and sent it back right away.
Then we got a pizza and it wasn’t anything to write home about. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible.
This is obviously Italian food for people who have no taste, who have never had Italian food before, or are just there for the bar. I’m astounded that this place remodeled the entire inside and painted the outdoor bar but cannot invest in food that actually tastes good. This definitely wasn’t worth $50.
Don’t go here. I’m serious save your money and go to Mangia or even La Cantina or order Mama’s Pizza. Definitely the worst Italian restaurant...
Read moreBad night at Paolos. Busy, but not that busy. Our server brought our drinks quickly, but that was the end of the good service. She took our order. She asked if we wanted bread. 20 minutes later, she finally brought our bread. After another 20 minutes waiting, our food was finally brought out. My husband had something with spaghetti. I ordered a side of spaghetti. Neither of my sides arrived with my chicken dish. My chicken was not even warm, it was cold, the lettuce was wilted. After 10 minutes, the server came back and I asked her to warm it up, she brought the broccoli out at this time, no spaghetti. Another 15 minutes go by, my husband finished his meal (which was only lukewarm when served) and I have broccoli only. At this point I was so annoyed that I didn't want the meal. Again, no sign of the server to give an update or refill coffee, etc. We spoke to the person behind the register and asked for the meal to be removed from our bill and she complied but was a little nasty. She told us they were 're-making' my dinner. It would have been nice if the server came out and told us that, she did not. We paid the check for one meal and our coffees & we left. I would never go back, and definitely not...
