I'm really sad. We used to absolutely love this place. The food was incredible as were the employees and owner. They have a new chef now who changed up their menu. None of our old favorites remained. But that's not why I'm moving my review from a 5 to a 2, it's because of the food now served there.
First, let me say, the staff are the nicest, most prompt people and worth every penny.
I ordered a steak melt sandwich as did my mom. It looked good at first, but the meat had absolutely no flavor. You truly couldnt taste it at all. My mother said the same. What you do taste is an overwhelming brandy or vinegar type of flavor (maybe it was a type of teriyaki, nwither of us could figure it out but brandy was the closest). The mushrooms were large and looked good, but they were also overwhelmed by that flavor and didnt have any remaining mushroom taste left either. The meat and mushrooms were pretty cool to the touch and the meat was medium cooked which normally would be fine, we arent that picky, but I'm typing this from my bathroom because I've been in here a while tonight and suspect the sandwhich had part to play as my mom texted me moments ago asking if I was in the same predicament as she was. We hadnt eaten anything else, and she lives 2 hours away and was visiting. The Lakehouse sandwhiches are the only common denominator here.
We ate the sandwiches because we ordered them. We aren't the type to complain typically, but I was left pretty unsatisfied this time. Both of use left a good portion of our sandwhich behind, and the grease was everywhere.
I'm really sad about this. I've told so many how amazing the food was (with the prior chef). Now I'll have to amend that. Especially as that cost almost $17 per person for a steak melt sandwich and normal fries and 1 soda without refill. Over $34. I'd have rather spent that at Applebee's and had more flavor.
Edit: to the owner, in case you read this, I just saw my husband left his own review about being upset over the nachos; he ordered them through me (he wasn't physically present but had heard our concerns over a call to see what he wanted to eat instead) before he found out the nachos weren't carried anymore, and we didn't hear about an option to special order, which isn't the end of the world, he ate from elsewhere. I'll ask him to remove his review because I don't think it's fair to be affected by 2 reviews...
Read moreSeveral concepts have opened and closed in the building that is now the Lake House. Our neighborhood is fortunate to have so many independent restaurants, but the number is quickly shrinking. I went to the Lake House about once a week for "date night" but a once-beloved menu now seemed tired. The specials were repetitive, and although the location was convenient, I had all but quit going. After a three month hiatus, my SO and I dropped in for a drink. We bellied up to the bar, and the bartender took our drink order and handed us menus. The menu was a different color than the last time I was there. Some of the staples remain, but the menu had many new additions. We started with a Caprese Salad: Tomatoes, a generous portion of fresh mozzarella, and basil drizzled with a balsamic reduction and olive oil. It was simple and simply delicious. Next, we had the Romaine Salad, adding salmon. I thought the salmon at $13 was pricey, but it was cooked to perfection Golden and crisp on top and just barely cooked at the center. The high quality, freshness, and generous serving salmon was EXCELLENT! Definitely worth the money and will order again! Our expectations continued to be exceeded. Our last dish for the night was the Braised Short-rib. I typically would not buy beef from a seafood place, but everything was so good that I thought I should give it a shot. I am glad I did as I would have missed out! The short ribs were the most flavorful, tender, beef you can possibly imagine— the meat falls off the bone with ease. Oh, is it ever a treat. We were too full to get dessert, but next time we are going to try the ganache. Don't let the new menu fool you—there are still burgers, calamari, and $3 Lone Star that keep this place casual. This place is perfect for groups or a...
Read moreThis review is long overdue. We have been coming to the Lake House Bar and Grill about once a week for a long time and it is one of our favorites in Dallas. We usually finish up a bike ride or run around White Rock Lake at this little unassuming jewel. The food is delicious, the staff is wonderful, the owner is very hands-on and caring person and the atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. It is a great little brunch spot on Sat and Sun. Some of our favorites are the Calamari, Mussles, Shrimp Avocado Salad, Shrimp Po-Boy and Crab Cake sandwich to name a few. Oh! and the garlic butter fries are to die for! Very relaxed atmosphere and nice cool pet friendly patio. The chef is accomodating to special requests if it is possible. Lots of great experiences but a few extra-mile service experiences to mention: after a long bike ride from Arlington, we experienced heat exhaustion and the server (I want to say Heather ((I hope that is correct)) gave almost 911 care and attention, bringing pitchers of water to pour over, cold towels, allowed to lie down on bench outside...anything needed and not asked for anything in return. 2. On 4th of July, the restaurant was closed, but the owners family was there using the patio privately. He was so kind to offer cold ice water and rest on the patio after a long hot ride in 100* heat. We look forward to many more meals there and bringing many more friends in the...
