This is an amazing place to take your furry kids to expend their bottled up energy. The dog park has 3 fenced off-leash areas totaling 3 acres. (Large Dog 2 acre, small dogs 1 acre).
This place has plenty of shade, water bowls, waste stations and most importantly running room. If your dog loves to get wet, they'll love the 3rd fenced and sectioned portion of White Rock Lake. Containing amazing views overlooking most of the lake. Generally, dog owners do pick up after their pets but you do have your occasional distractive owners that don't. Same with the dogs being rowdy. For the most part, I haven't had to worry about my encounters with other dogs as mostly all are friendly.
Be weary if your dogs ever lunge/chase ducks. I did see one owners dogs climb over the bouy barrier closest to the walking bridge and approximately 50 yards out before finally returning. From that experience and watching the owner get in, I do know that after the first immediate steps into the lake puts you at an approximate 3 feet depth. Definitely good information if you ever need to run in if your dog is unable to keep himself afloat. (Be cautious as I don't even know how far the 3ft-depth extends to. There could be a substantial drop to the rest of the actual lake depth.
Moving on, if you and your dogs are interested in taking walks instead. The dog park has a concrete walkway very well maintained, I would guess possibly a quarter-mile in length. It connects to the walking trail, encompassing the White Rock Lake, boasting 9.33 miles accessible from the large dog fenced area. If that's not enough it connects to the White Rock Creek Trail which adds another 7.5 miles totaling...
Read moreWe live a good jaunt away (Fort Worth), but I wanted to try something new with the kiddos. It was alright. There was trash everywhere, but this was the weekend after July 4th so maybe it isn't always this trashy. The water smelled like sewage, but okay it's a dog park on a lake and I planned to bathe them afterwards regardless. Still made me appreciate the filtered and slightly better smelling pond at Z Bonz Dog Park in FW to that. The tiered steps were appreciated by my old man, since he isn't a swimmer but loves lounging in shallow water. Those steps however were covered in layers of algae and mega slippery for the rambunctious dogs. There is no shade by the lakeside. At all. If you have an escape artist, watch them close. Fencing goes down to the lakeside, and there is a floating border, but not a real barrier where the water and shore meet. A clever dog not being watched could likely find a way around. We left the lakeside part after a scare with our Husky, who can definitely be one of those clever dogs, had gone off investigating the brush by the boarders.
One big thing I like is that the lakeside portion is separate, so you can let your pup swim then go dry off for a bit in the regular play areas. That portion gets most of the stars here, but still not worth another trip for me anytime soon. I could definitely see the appeal if I lived closer, though, particularly if in walking distance due to the bike/walking path and bridge.
Love the idea of a lakeside dog park, but not...
Read moreBeautiful dog park I have visited regularly. Family crisis kept us 90 days dealing with hospis and death of my family member. Finally, today I took 82 years old mom, my wife and our two ptibulls and Husky. Arrived there and truly my Pitbulls were crazy like never before. I was trying to get my dogs on leash. Not knowing that park have Monkeys that attack me saying that my dog is aggressive, threatening me and ignoring their human aggressive behavior. Not even trying to help me but start they own aggressive behavior. One of those Monkeys said he has a (kid )there in dog park for dogs over 30 pounds. What kid doing there we have kid parks all over. You teaching your children how to fight people and reject. Another one wanted to fight me (thanks Lord for giving patience to ignoring those Monkeys and keeping me out of trouble I really don't want any negativity in my life) Thank that nice lady for helping me to calm my dog's down. With park full of people she gives me a hope that there are people with understanding, willing to help (not only observe and have fun watching and recording hate and human aggressive behavior) She came and pet my Pitbull and help me to get another one. I want...
