We weren't sure what to expect when coming here. I was surprising my wife with a picnic at the Marblehead Lighthouse. Figured we'd stop here, grab a chili gig, ice cream and go eat.
It did take a bit, but they were busy. They put food out consistently so it wasn't horribly slow. If I was on lunch break I'd have been worried, but with the number of people there, certainly acceptable.
The food: Everything was hot, except the ice cream of course. The favorite was the cheese dogs. They were excellent. Lots of cheese! Its melted grated cheese, a pleasant surprise. I expected cheese sauce. The chili dogs were good, I don't like chili, but ate one. Word of caution, they have a bite. They're a little spicy, but not real hot. I don't like really spicy foods, they don't agree with me, but I handled these. It's also not a real runny sauce/chili its thicker, more burger than sauce, which was nice. Fries were, fries. They're good, just fries. Ice cream was a marshmallow sundae, which we both enjoyed first. Don't tell Mom! LOL
All in all, we'd stop again. I wish they'd update the website, and put a menu outside. The menu inside is in the window and to the left. Appears to be a monitor but its difficult to see with the glare from the sun, and you really can only see when you order. This makes it longer to order, for those of us not familiar with them. The website has a menu, but not everything they carry, is on it. If it were more current, it would make ordering much easier. Seeing the items (pics), and knowing what's there, I can decide on.my way. Order and go.
Price, is reasonable. Not real cheap, but certainly not real expensive. Average cost for what you'd expect.
Conclusion: a nice hot meal, for a good price. We'd...
Read moreRude! You can really tell these people don’t like their jobs! They don’t have a menu outside that is visible - you have to stand in the window looking at it from outside. With the sun shining from behind you onto the glass, it’s not able to be seen. I knew they were famous for their chili dogs, so I ordered a chili dog with onion & mustard, a bag of chips and a slush. The dog was disgusting. Not only was it missing the mustard and onion but it had a lot of sugar in the sauce. I don’t like sweet with my meat. I got two bites in (because I was hungry!) and realized my bun was falling apart. The bun was super soggy on the bottom, which leads me to believe that didn’t drain the hotdog at all. It was so soggy that it seems they added a few spoonfuls of water to the bun before the hotdog. Just disgusted with the whole experience. The kid taking my order was rude and not remotely caring if I was there or not. He likely would have preferred that I was not. The entire experience was...
Read moreWhen it comes down to diners or dives and healthy eating this one is not only an actual dive it's also very unhealthy. Serious grease attack on the chili cheese, if your asking for a heart attack this is defiantly the place! So they say their famous for the chilli dogs, What are they comparing it too? Skyline chilli is tastier that should tell you something right there. If you can stand the sight of un cleaned tables for who knows how long and no napkins except the single one they put at the bottom of your bag to catch the grease oozing off the dog (yuck) it's okay for drinks and shakes. Maybe they think their famous since it's the only one in town? Don't run over to Nettys and don't make it apart of your vacation. Save your money and heart it's not worth it. Btw did I mention the chilli is canned and they only except cash? No bathrooms on...
