I once rated this restaurant 5 stars, but times have changed, as have this restaurant's dedication to serving up quality food at reasonable prices. The general tso chicken, my Chinese restaurant litmus test, as well as the fried rice have both take a big hit in terms of flavor, possibly due to a change in ownership, or maybe as a result of growing apathy from those in the kitchen. Either way, it's just not the same and I feel the need to mourn.
The fried rice used to look at taste like it was actually fried, but now it is nearly colorless and only slightly less bland than ordinary steamed white rice. There's not much else to say about fried rice, especially when it barely makes the marks to be considered fried.
While fried rice is a staple of chinese food, I'd be remiss if I ignored the true king, or should I say general, of the culinary world. Peking's current general tso offering is a far cry from what it used to be. What was once a thick, flavorful sauce has become watered down to the point that it's far too thin for its own good and, as a result, it's severely lacking in flavor. The watered down sauce no longer clings to the chicken as it once did, using it as a deliciously breaded and fried vehicle to transport that sweet and savory flavor to all 9,000 taste buds. Now, the chicken soaks in the soupy sauce like a soft, shriveled up old dude who's been in the pool too long, and he's definitely not one of those likeable old dudes. This old dude just sits around talking about his glory days, and everyone knows they are far behind him.
Lastly, I'll touch on price. Ever since the first Chinese restaurant sprung up in America and started offering delicious and filling food to the masses, people have enjoyed the reasonable prices for said oriental offerings. I'm not sure if Peking has increased their prices as of late, but the recent nosedive in food quality and flavor has shed light on the fact that their prices are too high for what you get. I don't think it should cost $25+ for two people to eat food like this when there are much better offerings elsewhere. Heck, making the food yourself at home is a better option, even when factoring in the...
Read moreStaff is friendly and food was cooked quickly. That is only reason I’m giving 2 stars. I ordered 2 large general Tso chicken and 2 sesame chicken with 4 egg rolls. First off she tried overcharging me by 10:00 dollars. Got that squared away, pick up was quick. The food is AWFUL and that is being kind. The general tso chicken was sour not spicy and hot and the glaze was like waster and get this there might have been 2 pieces of broccoli in it sliced extremely thin, ALL of the chicken was dark meat which I hate. The sesame chicken was ok but again ALL dark meat, nasty. The egg rolls were actually spring rolls. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Sams club and Walmart both sale general tso chicken in a box that puts this to shame. Just awful!!! I made 2 trips to this establishment, my first and my last. P. S. The rice...
Read moreFirst timer at this pick up restaurant. I sat for a few minutes before I was told to go to the window and order my lunch. Ironically it was the same girl. She was actually the only employee I saw in the 45 minutes I was there. Some cannot deviate from their routine. Kinda funny and a bit sad. Anyway she was accommodating as I asked who have half my portion of dumplings steamed and half fried to try them both ways. delicious! The only complaint would be to have more broccoli in the General Tao chicken. And I would have enjoyed it spicy as it is the way I'm used to having it. All said, I will be returning once a month when in the area. Looking forward to...
