Update: I didn’t finish all of my orange chicken and rice on the first night that I bought it so I had it as leftovers the next day and it wasn’t good. The chicken tasted very stringy like there was hair or something in the chicken almost like it wasn’t really chicken.
I recently ordered takeout from Red House Chinese Restaurant located at 3221 N Main St in Dayton, OH, and I wanted to share my experience. Upon arriving, I noticed that the inside of the restaurant was closed to customers due to “disorderly customers,” which was a bit concerning. There were signs taped to the door and windows informing patrons that takeout was the only option available. While the exterior and the situation gave off a slightly "ghetto" vibe, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
I ordered the orange chicken combo which came with pork fried rice however I exchanged it for chicken fried rice and it also came with a pork egg roll, which I exchanged for a shrimp egg roll and I ordered crab Rangoon. I also ordered soul chicken combo which came with shrimp fried rice in a pork eggroll. To my surprise, the food was quite good! I had heard mixed reviews about this place, but my first experience was positive. The orange chicken was flavorful, the fried rice was well-prepared, and the crab Rangoon had that delicious crunch I was hoping for.
However, the customer service could use some improvement. When I went inside to take some pictures and videos of the door area, I was told I couldn’t do that, which felt a bit unnecessary, especially since I had already taken a few photos before being approached.
Overall, I would consider returning to Red House for takeout, but I think I might stick to the items I enjoyed rather than trying a wide variety of options due to other reviews I’ve read. If you're in the area and looking for a decent Chinese meal, this spot may...
Read moreI came to Dayton, Ohio on personal business. I ordered food to be delivered. I was informed that I should receive my order in 35 to 45 minutes. 1.10 minutes went by, no food. I called the Red House to inform the person (same man that took my order from my initial call). He said my order was in route to me, however I requested an exact time, since my order had not been delivered in the time frame from my initial call. I pressed him for a time, he handed the phone to a female, she insisted that my order would be delivered shortly. I called back again because my order had not been delivered nearly 2 hours late, I asked to speak to the manager, I informed her that nearly 2 hours had passed and my food had not arrived. The female raised her voice to tell me that they have called my cell phone several times and accused me of not answering my phone. I yelled back stating my phone never rang, you didn't call me. She told me a wrong number, I told her the number she gave me was not my cell phone number. She said I will redo your order and deliver it to you. I said you won't redo anything for me, put my money back on my credit card, then I hung up the phone. I am glad that I had food from my trip to Dayton or I would have gone to bed on an empty stomach. I can't believe that the inconsiderate employees didn't have the decency to apologize for their dumb mistake. This place gets an F+ in my opinion. I don't recommend anyone eat at this place, very poor...
Read moreI ordered for myself the one thing that usually can tell you everything you need to know about a Chinese restaurant. The egg rolls. 99% of the time if they can make a good egg roll they can make good food. Also you will find out if they serve real sauces with their food or colored water with sugar or salt depending on the sauce. The egg rolls were ok. Sauces were fake. My wife wanted the house fried rice. It was like the egg rolls. The egg rolls were OK. Nothing special. But overall the prices match the quality. It's food that is better than many. I give it a 3.5 🌟. Only because the food is just worth the money.
P.S. I still call this false advertising. How can someone call this soy sauce when it's not made with soybeans?
P.p.s. I'm starting to get the feeling that no "Chinese" restaurants here make fried rice. None of the budget "Chinese" restaurants put eggs in the fried rice. Cooking fried rice is supposed to be old white rice. Day old cooked rice. Oil, vegetables, seasonings and fried then egg well scrambled in. You guys here get old rice. With chicken bullet seasonings and oil. Unless you go to a real Chinese restaurant and shell out 14$. Even the smallest Chinese restaurants in Lubbock TX could cook real fried rice. But obviously not here in...
