Sugar Bowl — Restaurant in Decorah

Have been coming to Decorah for years and never went to the Sugar Bowl. A few years back we saw it was under new manaand decided to try....and am very glad we did. There are two ice cream places in Decorah...Sugar Bowl and Whippy Dip. Sugar Bowl serves hard pack ice cream, and Whippy Dip does soft serve. The experience at Sugar Bowl is always great....friendly staff who are genuinely happy to help you. The flavors of ice cream rotate but they are so good. Today, I had the Mint Avalanche...fun fact, they will make you an ice cream sandwich if you ask. They have home made monster cookies that I think are gluten free...if you don't care if you eat gluten you wouldn't know you are missing out and if you can't have gluten, boom! Gluten free cookie ice cream sandwich. Love this place and will be back next time we...

Great place and helpful staff! Though I wish they did have some sort of sorbet for a dairy free option.

This is a review edit. I asked the water street staff about dairy free options when I stopped to get my kids ice-cream (my youngest has PKU so he has a super strict diet.) I asked the girl about dairy free options they said none are available. So 2 out of the 3 kids get ice cream We weren't told that if we walked down the road 5 blocks they have a second location that does have the dairy free options. So please, kindly disregard the helpful staff...

Best ice cream in town! Munchie Madness is to die for! The decor has a fun, retro feel to it which makes the experience even better! To top it off, the owners go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable. If you weren't pleased with your visit they do whatever they can to make it up to you because they truly value your opinion. You don't see that much passion and desire to truly serve people these days. It's comforting to know they truly care about their customers and I mean, who doesn't love ice cream?! Gonna get me a pint later...
