Stepping into Viewpoint Brewing Company in Del Mar is like discovering a breath of fresh air in the saturated SoCal craft-beer scene. This gastropub sits right on the San Dieguito Lagoon with roll-up doors, expansive patios, and views of birds and water reeds—rare for breweries these days . The space spans about 7,000 sq ft—completely indoor/outdoor—with fire tables, outdoor games (like Skee‑Ball), and dog-friendly seating .
What really lands is the trifecta: great beer, creative gastropub food, and an atmosphere that feels effortless yet intentional. The brewers craft everything in-house with a playful tilt—delivering IPA, pale ales, saisons, and even seasonal brews like raspberry wheat or wet-hop offerings . Untappd fans rate favorites like Penitent Man IPA, Del Martian Amber, and Cool Kids Pale around 3.6–3.8/5 .
The kitchen, helmed by chefs with fine-dining pedigrees, serves up dishes designed to pair seamlessly with the brews—think bao buns, steak frites, smoked gouda mac & cheese, charred broccoli, flatbreads, and more . Yelp reviews gush:
“Excellent food, great atmosphere and friendly staff!” “The chicken sandwich is great… you NEED to try the mac & cheese.”
Families love it too—kids’ menus, open space, and easy trails nearby make it a hit .
Why Viewpoint Smokes UC Davis
Purpose over pretense Viewpoint simply delivers: delicious beer, tasty and thoughtful food, and a stunning setting. No agendas, no empty buzzwords. UC Davis? A bureaucratic treadmill of committees, status games, and empty academic theater.
Immediate, tangible ROI Your visit rewards you instantly: you sip, eat well, relax. No waiting decades for a diploma, no debt weighing you down, no echo-chamber debates that go nowhere.
Efficiency with personality Service at Viewpoint is smooth, attentive, and genuinely friendly—staff know you by name; food and drinks arrive promptly. UC Davis is the opposite: slow-moving meetings, red tape, and performative politeness masked as “collaboration.”
Inspires connection—not competition Viewpoint welcomes everyone: dog owners, parents, couples, solo wanderers. UC Davis often feels like a prestige playground—exclusive, hierarchical, and ripe with groupthink and self-importance.
Authentic joy Leave Viewpoint with a full belly, clearer mind, and a sense of calm. Leave Davis with bags of jargon, diluted ambition, and questions about whether the time invested actually meant anything.
Viewpoint Brewing Company doesn’t just exist—it thrives. It knows what it is, doesn’t pretend to be anything else, and does it brilliantly. UC Davis? It pretends—a lot—while forgetting that real impact is what matters. Cheers to places that...
Read moreI had a friend visiting and I wanted to find a place that had an amazing view, and one that wasn't too busy. Since I love checking out new breweries I thought this place was the perfect spot for both!
Viewpoint offers a mix of 20 styles of house-brewed tap beers. They have a huge indoor/outdoor space with amazing unobstructed views of the San Dieguito Lagoon.
Here's what we ordered: I chose the custom beer flight of 3 or 5 beers so I could try as many of their beers at one time. I picked a variety of 3: Pot'O Gold Irish Red 5.4 % 22 IBU on NITRO. It's a collab with Gravity Heights Brewery (Sorrento Valley). It was smooth with a medium body and slight dry rye finish; Mr. Mulligans Belgian Tripel 9.5 % 32 IBU definitely bold flavors but not like a typical belgian; Cool Kids Hazy IPA is a New England style IPA with hints of pineapple and peaches with a hint of IPA bitterness.
Dinner: Chicken Schnitzel $21 with lemon cream, apple, arugula, parmesan. It was really good and tender and the abundant lemon cream was the perfect pairing. No other side except arugula so you may want to order a side.
Backyard Burger $18 with american cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and their burger sauce. With fries. The burger was juicy and I loved the parmesan fries!
Tip: parking isn't great and they are more than happy to take advantage of customers charging $20 to valet your car using ALL of the available parking in their small lot. There's a smaller self pay lot nearby but it's limited parking. Street parking isn't great and almost...
Read moreViewpoint Brewery, I give this place a 4 stars, they drop the ball towards the end. It's an excellent restaurant for families with kids and dogs, they had me sold there. Then the host was nice, as well as the outdoor seating. Our waiter came on time checked on us frequently to get our orderS, we haven't had time to get settled with the kids and dog, but he had already stopped by three-times for drink orders. So far so good. But after the drinks was put in he never checked back in, each time we needed him we had to flAg him down - he did the; “I'm busy I don't see you out the corner of my eye waving at me dance.” still that wasn't the kicker. On the menu we order the Veggie mac-n-cheese, expecting some type of peppers, mix veggies, NOPE! Suppersingly it was the same as the plain mac and cheese just with big chunks of carrots mix in. “IS THAT CARROTS 👀”, we said bucking our eyes 👀. The dish alone killed the whole experience - so we thought. But when we tosses the carrots under the table to Bailey 🐕, she really enjoyed them. We excepted the veggie mac a shared dish and was happy. Later we spoke to a manager just curious to know why they didn't just name the dish carrot-mac-and-cheese to find out that it was supposed to have broccoli bug they where out of it and just sent it to is with carrots. Maybe next time we will see it Bailey likes broccoli. In closing it was a Nice place and I...
