Took my family here yesterday for Mother's Day. In the past, it's been great and worth the drive. It was about 7:30, and I was concerned that there may not be any seating so I called and checked to see if they would take reservations. I was told that it was first come first serve. THE woman on the phone was not overly friendly or helpful. When we got there, we were met at the hostess station and asked if we had reservations. I told her that I had called and was told they didn't accept reservations -she just gave me a puzzled look and proceeded to seat us. We had a party of eight, mostly children. We all ordered and our food came out rather quickly. I took a bite of my calzone and then noticed there was no sausage in it. My daughter took a bite of hers and it just had sun-dried tomatoes and mushrooms,- no cheese, no sauce, and no sausage. My grandson wouldn't even try his. He had ordered a pepperoni calzone- it was burned, literally black all over. Plus, there was very little filling inside. It was dry and looked quite pitiful. The other pizzas and calzones were okay. Our waitress agreed with us, and promised to make things right by comping my daughter's calzone and the drinks around the table. We were told that they had mostly run out of sausage so they were skimply putting it into the calzones, rather than telling their customers that they were out and offering an alternative. The waitress told me "let me know if you don't find any in there." I said there's not any in there especially if I'm having to pay for it. We asked them to make my grandson a pizza, which he ate and agreed was much better. When we went to pay, the calzone was comped, but none of the drinks. The food tasted ok and it was reminiscent of how it tasted before they decided to be so stingy with the toppings. I don't know if they're trying to save money or what. My son-in-law said that the ampride in Montevista makes a better calzone for the money. Hopefully it was just an off night for them. But some suggestions would be don't burn it, don't be so skimpy on the toppings, and let your customers know if you are out of certain toppings that they have ordered and offer...
Read moreThis was not the worst dining experience I have ever had but it was enough for me to feel the need to say something as a person who does not often leave reviews. When I do leave reviews, they are usually really good ones because i felt that good things should be acknowledged. I was recommended this place by a couple locals while in town for work but am staying in Monte Vista. After driving 20 minutes to eat here, the sweet hostess sat me at the barrel chairs outside. 25 minutes later, I finally went in to tell the hostess that nobody has come to take my order and asked if I could just order there at the hostess stand. In that 25 minutes, 2 tables outside were ordering when I arrived and got their food and another couple who arrived 10 minutes after me had ordered without me being acknowledge by either of the servers helping the outside guests. The hostess girl took my order and walked off without telling me if I should go sit down or wait. I could tell she was flustered and trying to be helpful. When they brought my food out to me, the order was wrong and my pizza was so burnt it left char on my hands. By then I said I would just eat it because I had been there over an hour already and all the other restaurants in town were closed or near closing and I still had to drive 20 minutes back to my hotel. The server told me she would take 15% off my bill for all the inconvenience but I stilled paid for almost $30 for a Sangria and a pizza. Meanwhile, the couple who arrived 10 minutes after me finished their drinks and food as my food was coming out. Unfortunately, this was enough for me to not want to return for another experience. To end on a positive note, the atmosphere in this place was great. I loved all the bikes around the ceiling and that the kitchen was tied into the dining area. The place was busy which is a good sign for small businesses. You can even buy their beer to go that is already pre-packaged in cans in a fridge ready for the grab and go for those just wanting a taste of the local flavor. If you decide to visit, I hope your experience was...
Read moreFirstly, I dine here almost weekly and have made multiple large (expensive) orders to feed large groups of construction workers, but will no longer do so. This particular experience was unpleasant enough to leave a poor review, which is extremely out of character for me.
-Originally, I called and placed a to-go order. Upon arrival, I told the hostess that I would like to wait for a table and dine-in due to a change of circumstance. I was then told that because my original order was placed for pickup, I would not be able to dine-in, and that I had to leave. After leaving, confused, I called and spoke with the passive-aggressive manager and her reasoning was, “that’s policy.” -Even after explaining that I was happy to wait for a table and service, and that I would be meeting a group of co-workers who would also be dining-in, tipping, etc., “policy.” Meanwhile, there were many empty tables and dozens of empty seats inside and outside. -Maybe I’m not understanding the issue here? But, it doesn’t make sense to turn an entire group away, because one person had placed a to-go order and experienced a change of plans. That being said, the lady acting as manager wasn’t compelled to help me understand, or work with me...
