I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at the Airport Restaurant and Gin Mill in DeLand, Florida, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a remarkable evening.

First and foremost, the location of this restaurant is nothing short of spectacular. Situated right at DeLand Municipal Airport, it offers a front-row seat to the fascinating world of aviation. As I enjoyed my meal, I had the incredible opportunity to watch planes taking off and landing, adding a unique and thrilling dimension to my dining experience. The icing on the cake? My wife and I came here for lunch today, usually I get a blackened grouper sandwich but today I got a blackened grouper salad and my wife got a blackened chicken salad. When we received the food I could tell there was no blackened seasoning on mine and it had been clearly deep fried not grilled, as I have ordered this before I know what it looks like. My wife's salad was made correctly, I tried the salad because I'm not one to make a big deal about things but it did not taste good, it wasn't even crispy for being deep-fried I could definitely taste the oil and it was like mushy, so at this point I've lost my appetite and told the waitress it wasn't prepared correctly and she told me that it was in fact blackened and grilled, but with absolutely no blackening seasoning or grill marks and asked if I would like it remade, I told her no I did not want it remade as she was telling me this was made correctly and thats not at all what I had in the past and not what I asked for. So she took the plate and continued on with her work, I had a few bites of my wife's salad and it was fine, cooked as it should be, (the last time we ordered here it was a pick up order and her salad wasn't blackened either). Either way we waited for our bill to pay and leave and sure enough I was charged for a $12 salad that made me lose my appetite and was not cooked correctly regardless of being grilled or fried. And the grand total including a tip was $40. Im super disappointed that not only did I not get the meal I have eaten here numerous times before but that I also got charged full price for an empty stomach, I was going to ask for a replacement salad since I was being charged for something I never received but instead Decided to just leave and write this review to let people know what to expect here and take my business elsewhere, would have given 0 stars but my wife's food was okay (this time) so I did gave 2...

I rarely leave reviews, but our experience here was so disappointing yesterday, I felt it was necessary. The service was incredibly slow and frustrating. We were seated and waited far too long before a server even acknowledged us—four tables that arrived after us were served before we were even greeted or had our drink orders taken. To make matters worse, two servers came to attend to a table right next to us, both clearly seeing that we hadn’t been helped. We were looking directly at them, obviously needing attention, but they just ignored us and walked away. We had to actually go find someone ourselves.

We were ready to enjoy a few cocktails and spend money, but unfortunately, my husband never got his second beer, and no one came back to take my second drink order. After finishing our meals, we sat there for 20-30 minutes waiting for someone to check on us. The only time someone came over was when we were staring at them as they hung out and chatted behind the bar.

I really did not want to leave a tip and don’t know why I shamed myself into leaving one, because it certainly wasn’t deserved. These servers missed out, as we are great tippers and easy customers. The restaurant missed out on a $150-plus tab simply because we could not get service.
