Purchased a birthday lunch for a friend and he wanted steak for his burrito which isn’t a problem but the problem was them asking which meat I wanted for the burrito listing off multiple and one being steak and didn’t mention that it’s a $9 up charge and wasn’t going to say anything until I did. I still purchased the food but also requested chips and salsa and ordered a large spicy salsa and they gave me two small cups and I tried letting them know we’ve ordered a large salsa before and it wasn’t to big or small but the size of the palm of your hand and they charged me $8 for a large and brought out a huge salsa that’s the size of my foot (size 13) and instead of trying to ask for the smaller one I didn’t bother because they already charged my card.

What a gem! We had never been to Dell Rapids before so we turned left on a Sunday afternoon. Lucky for us El Mescal is there. The atmosphere is clean and nicely decorated. There’s a full liquor bar and lots of table seating. Both the Shrimp Chimichanga and Beef Mole were delicious. As usual, we ate too much but it was worth it. We had great service too. We will certainly return when in town.

1st time eating here. Very nice and clean Mexican restaurant in the historic Dell Rapids Opera House in downtown Dell Rapids, SD. The food was delicious 😋! Ground beef taco salad, pork tamal, and carnitas de pollo. Wonderful service. Really neat old hardwood bar. Restrooms were very clean and well maintained. We will be back!

We came to Dell Rapids knowing it was a small town and we were looking for just that. We travel full time, and our favorite type of food is Mexican, and we try to find the best place around. This town is super small, with only a few options for dining out. Sioux Falls being the closest city, about 30 mins away. Thankfully, we found this place right down the street. Excellent food and service and the restaurant is very cute and fits in with the town quite well. We visited several times over our month long stay at the campground and had the enchiladas, tacos, arroz con Pollo and shrimp tacos. All were...

Wonderful historic building. Sneak upstairs to see the opera house frozen in time if you can. We had a crazy large group of 40 and the staff were pros. Margaritas were strong and fantastically tasty. I had the seafood enchilada. Big plate of delicious food. Had enough for another meal. People were so friendly. Everyone remarked on the fresh chips. When leaving, a crew of motorcyclists came in and it was cool how they all lined up their helmets along the wall. Lots of kids around...
