I recently visited this Haitian Caribbean restaurant and had a disappointing experience. I ordered griot, expecting a generous portion as is customary, but was served a plate that was far from adequate. I noticed that the service felt dismissive, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was treated unfairly, likely because I'm a Black American.
Despite ordering a large plate, I received just a few pieces of meat and a small serving of plantains. It seemed as though I was given less food and charged more simply because I wasn't Haitian. This type of treatment shouldn't happen in any restaurant, regardless of the cuisine.
I’ve grown up enjoying Haitian food and know what a proper plate looks like, so this was particularly frustrating. The owner's attitude did not help matters, but I still tipped them, believing everyone deserves a second chance. I hope this review serves as a reminder for others to be aware of potential disparities in service based...
Read moreLive in or close to Delray? Are you like me and love Griot smothered in Pikliz? Then look no further, A&E Caribbean Cafe will satisfy that craving you've been having all day. Don't worry, their other menu items are good too if pork isn't your thing. Never had Haitian Food before? That's fine, but I don't really know what you're waiting for. Try something new! Bonus points if you like your food spicy.
The owner Emmanuel is one hell of a dude. He has a strong background when it comes to customer service at the workplace. Everyone there is actually really nice so don't listen to the reviews saying otherwise. Those people are full of BS, and usually don't have anything better to do than to complain on the internet.
Seriously, give this restaurant a try. Please note that I wasn't asked by anyone to write this review as It is 100% genuine. I just really...
Read moreThe WORST SERVICE you will EVER GET. The lady who answered the phone Gaelle was sooo rude. She had a bad attitude for no reason when she was taking my group order. I ordered an eggplant legume w/ side of rice and peas but the legume was sour! And it looked unfinished and barely was mashed. It smelled so strong! I had to throw it out…What a waste. The food did not look fresh and the quality was poor. 6 of my colleagues complained about the smell too and even when we sprayed the room with Lysol, the smell was still overpowering. When we called the restaurant to let the owner know, the man and Gaelle had a bad attitude and was unwilling to resolve the issue. I will stick to cooking my own quality fresh Haitian food AT HOME. Please Do NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE,...
