I'm thrilled to have finally tried “The Cocky Rooster” in Deltona after hearing so many great things from locals and reading glowing reviews. After living here for a few months, this restaurant has been on my must-try list, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
The ambiance is charming from the moment you step inside, with rooster and chicken-themed décor throughout. There’s a cozy bar area that serves alcohol, but you can also enjoy your meal there. The restaurant offers plenty of seating options, from booths to tables and chairs, making it accessible for wheelchairs. The adorable gift shop adds to the appeal, with funny rooster-themed shirts, hats, bags, and even games for sale. It’s a fun touch that makes the place stand out.
The dessert selection is impressive, featuring everything from cakes and cookies to a variety of pastries that all looked mouthwatering. I’ll definitely be back to try some of those!
Our server, Nina, was incredibly attentive and thoughtful. Since I focus on health and fitness, and I’m also avoiding caffeine, she suggested an uncaffeinated black tea, which I really appreciated. My husband ordered the tuna melt, which he found absolutely delicious and highly recommends. I opted for the chicken fajita bowl, requesting lettuce instead of rice to keep things lighter, and since I’m lactose intolerant, Nina thoughtfully suggested skipping the cheese. Her attention to detail was fantastic.
The fajita bowl itself was beautifully presented, with perfectly cooked chicken breast, green bell peppers, onions, lettuce, tomato, and avocado. The chicken was juicy and full of flavor, living up to the "Cocky Rooster" name! However, the portion size was smaller than I anticipated, especially for the price. I suspect it felt a bit light because I opted out of the rice, but the taste was so good that I was left wanting more! It was satisfying, but not quite filling, so I ended up having a snack when I got home.
Nina checked in regularly to ensure everything was perfect, and we even had the pleasure of meeting the cook, who came out to see how we liked our meal. He was kind and clearly passionate about the food, which was a lovely personal touch.
Overall, I had a great experience at “The Cocky Rooster” and will definitely be returning to try more of their menu. It’s a charming local spot with delicious food and excellent service, and I’m excited to see what else they...

Once for Lunch:
Great experience. Not too crowded, able to sit immediately. Quick and responsive service.
Had fried fish. Excellent. Light and crispy breading with a hint of beer if I’m not mistaken. Came with decent tasting and amount of fries. That and a drink was around $10. I had no complaints.
Once for breakfast w. Family:
Found breakfast to be a little disappointing and overpriced. My wife and I had higher-priced enteees. My kids had 2 small kid entrees. Wife and Is were about $10 each and kids split a pancake plate and a kids breakfast (one just a pancake, the other with 1 egg 1 small strip of bacon 1 small (possibly frozen and pre-cooked) sausage link and a couple scoops of hash browns.
Probably the best country-fried steak I’ve ever had. scrambled eggs and hash browns cooked perfectly. Wife loved her Mexican omelette.
My disappointment came down to -
Chocolate milk for kids was $3.29, small cup, no refills.
Wife and I had a mimosa each, @ $5 per drink, tasted like orange juice and seltzer water. Very very low quality champagne (as can be expected for a diner-ish place). Just a little less pleasant than already expecting. I ended up drinking hers because I didn’t want to waste it and didn’t want to complain. I do not recommend ordering.
Dessert time, wife and I had mini cannoli each @ $1.75 per. Good, but small. Kids split a rainbow sprinkle cookie. They enjoyed it but it was obviously very stale and it literally would disintegrate into crumbs at the slightest touch.
For what we ordered I spent about $50 in food, plus tip. I would have been perfectly happy without the mimosas and stale cookie. The cannolis, while very small and overpriced, were delicious, though I think it wouldn’t have stung as bad if they were offered for a 2 for $3 or 4 for $5 kind of thing.
Service was great here as well. At the end of the day we were very satisfied.
As a side note, we took our leftovers home, and ate them for lunch. It was as delicious then as it was at first.
Bottom line: come for the food and service, but pass on...
Read moreThey don't tell you that you need to go inside and wait to be seated. We sat at a table outside, and the waitress saw us but continued to wait on the other table then went inside. Once inside I guess she talked to another waitress who came out and rudely told an older lady at the table in front of us that she needed to get up because that table was already spoken for and that didnt she know she needed to check in at the podium inside. The older lady just left, I would too after being spoken to like that. Then she proceeds to do the same to my table but there were 4 of us and so we refused to give up our table but I did go inside and check in at the podium. The waitress gave me 4 sticky menus and was very much annoyed at us the whole time serving us. She gushed over the adjacent table and made sure their waters and coffees were filled but we had to plead for ours to be filled. She also rolled her eyes at my friend as she asked questions about the menu. I could go on about this place and how terrible the service was and the food was mediocre. But it's just not a place I'd ever go back to or recommend anyone to. If you are a regular you get preferred treatment, so it appears. This place isn't worth the money, the wait staff is rude. The food looked like it wouldn't even be served at a Denny's and the environment wasn't friendly. Save yourself some money and time and just...
