If its good enough for Willie Nelson, its good enough for anyone!! The Sailing Cow is a great place for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, you name it. The menu is simple but delicious, with great staff and a beautiful view of the Nantucket sound. They offer the staples for breakfast (ask about the Cowabunga challenge) and lunch, but I have yet to go for dinner. They also offer lots of drink and nightly specials, and host music events during the summer as well. They are open for Cape Cod summer (I think May til October, but are bumping it out if there is demand) and is a must stop. If you've stayed this long, I mentioned Willie because there is a pic of him in the resturaunt. I bet he really lit that place up when he was there, if ya know what I mean!

LOVE this local gem!! Owner super accommodating! We called the day before we went there for dinner and requested a large lobster for our Anniversary dinner. They called me to confirm that they caught a 6 lbs lobster the following morning, gave a us a reasonable quote in it, and then were awesome when we got there for dinner! They brought the live lobster out to us for pictures, although they were busy with a lot of patrons there. They didn't rush us and were very accommodating! They cooked our meals quickly and were very attentive to us and our family. I am a repeat customer and always make a point to go there whenever I am on the Cape! BTW...best chowder I've tasted!!! Hands down, the best! Love these guys!!

The star is for the great location. Other than that the food was not great and the service - terrible. We came here for breakfast, were told there weren't tables outside and that the host would call us when tables would open. Instead of calling, the host proceeded to seat new people at the tables that would open. When we came back asking why she hadn't called, the host completely ignored the question and was rude in general. Our waitress made almost no attempt at being friendly or hospitable. When one of my eggs benedict was fully cooked inside, she said that she WOULD have brought me another one, if I hadn't eaten half of it (I tried it to see if it was even edible) . There was not even a 'sorry about that'.

This may be a good place to grab a drink due to its lively atmosphere on a Friday night at 7pm but I’d skip it if you’re looking for a good meal. Especially if not everyone in your party will be eating seafood as they don’t seem to put much effort into their non seafood dishes from what I experienced.

The fried clams were decent but they were likely pre-battered and frozen so they’re hard to mess up. I think they were supposed to be whole clams even though they looked more like strips but this was probably still the best dish we ordered. The chicken fingers were bowling alley quality at best. The “homemade” meatballs were probably homemade but were small. While didn’t try them, the person who ordered them said they didn’t like them. This may have just been a matter of preference but based on the rest of the food, I’m guessing they weren’t great.

There was plenty of lobster in my hot lobster roll but it just didn’t hit the spot. I can’t put my finger on what makes a great lobster roll but I know it when it’s there and this one was lacking so I barely ended up eating half of it. I suspect the lobster wasn’t very fresh but I can’t be sure. Either way, it was just OK but I’m open to the possibility that it could be really good on another day. Another person in my party ordered a cold lobster roll and they ate the whole thing!!!

So far I’d chalk this experience up to being an average to subpar dining experience at your local tourist trap but then came the macaroni and cheese. It was reheated Kraft brand Mac and cheese. Yes they sell a 1/2 bowl of Kraft Mac and cheese for $9 on their kids menu. My daughter was deciding what to order and said she wanted to order it but hoped it wasn’t Kraft. I told her there was no way they were charging $9 for Kraft Mac and cheese. Who would do that? That may be my mistake for not asking but I did bring it the our waitresses attention by telling her that my daughter wasn’t really satisfied. She politely offered to tell the owners about my complaint. While she was very nice and offered otherwise good service, I feel the right thing to do in this situation would’ve been to offer to bring her something else but we didn’t push the issue.

The main reason that I’m writing this review is just incase she forgot to mention it to the owners. Dear Sailing Cow Owners, serving reheated Kraft Mac and cheese at a restaurant is unacceptable in my opinion. I don’t even buy that stuff in the grocery store, and I’d never willingly visit a restaurant that serves it. Even from a seafood place on the kids menu. I understand that you’re a seafood restaurant but sometimes people are going to order non seafood dishes. If you’re not willing to put the effort into those dishes, they shouldn’t be on the menu.

All in all, this would be a decent place to grab a drink on a Friday night but I wouldn’t eat there again especially if people in your party will be ordering non seafood. You can get similar quality food (non-seafood) the local movie theater concession stand at...

I've been going to this place over the summer for 6 years now and have never had any issues. This year, on Sunday, August 10, 2014, we went up for breakfast around 915am. We were seated right away, but didn't see a waitress for about 10-15 minutes. Once our order was finally put in, 30 minutes went by with nothing, not even an update from the waitress. At that point the waitress told us our food would be right out. 10 minutes went by and I again asked on the status of our food. After another 5 minutes, I went up and asked to speak to the manager. The person behind the counter offered to have the owner speak to me, but she was currently cooking. It was then I heard a woman from the back complaining for a waitress to come pick up an order in an offensive manner "She bitching about how long the food is taking, she needs to get it out"

The café wasn't busy as I've seen it in the past, so I'm not sure why the service was so slow. When the order came out finally, my son's order of pancakes was never put in, so he had to wait an additional 10 minutes. To top it off, the pancakes weren't even cooked all the way. The owner never came to talk to me. The food was so so. The service was absolutely horrible. I have no plans of returning to this place again unless they get new management or owners.

To make things even worse, there was a group of four others sitting across from us, that also had waited for over 30 minutes for their food before we left.

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE HUNGRY OR WANT...

From the moment we went in, it started. The hostess was sitting on her stool like a teenager that was being forced to attend a family function. When she sat us we asked for kid menu and she huffingly brought us one. Except we had two kids and disappeared before we could ask for another one. We waited almost 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We ordered and waited 20 minutes to find out there was no fruit left. Ok. Then continued to wait longer. Finally asking someone else since we never saw our waitress again until she brought the check, they appeared to have lost our check or the waitress never went for food cause when we got it, it was cold and slopped onto plates. They did make the little ones eggs over. No one ever came back to ask how things were. Waitress came back finally with a check. Now service isn't usually this bad. It was super busy but everything would have been better if someone had just stopped back and acknowledged us. A simple sorry for the wait would have gone a long way. A follow up after food delivered would have smoothed tempers. I'm soured from going again for awhile. The person in charge did comp half the check after we complained but we weren't looking for free. We would have been happy paying full price for good service. I don't remember the last time service was so bad...
