We went on a slightly windy afternoon, so the windows were closed, but the atmosphere is still top notch. You feel like you're on a cruise ship because all you see is the ocean.
Sadly, the best part of my meal was the view. I went with a small group of people and I was the only person not asked about a drink. It happened again when I ordered the clam chowder along with the rest of the table, I was the only one without clam chowder until everyone was done with theirs. I had to remind the waiter that I had ordered it.
The meal was way below my expectations based on the atmosphere, price, and details in the menu. Everything needed salt, and I don't think I've ever salted anything at a restaurant before (I'm usually a "everything is too salty" person). The clam chowder was good, but needed lots of salt and pepper. The main dish was the real letdown, though. I got the salmon, which was $40 market price. A fair price. I was super excited by the description. Ora King Salmon with pea puree, tri color cauliflower, pea medley, oyster mushrooms, and chive powder. Sadly, the entire plate lacked flavor. The star of the show was a perfectly cooked, but bland salmon. I've had similar pieces of salmon for less than half the price yet with more flavor. The mushrooms and peas were all fine, average veggies with nothing added. The standout, oddly, was the tri color cauliflower, though I only counted two colors. They were well seasoned and cooked. The pea puree was the base but I don't think it had the intended effect. With something like that, you should be able to drag a bite through it so it adds a unique flavor to the bite and thus, the dish. However the pea flavor was so light, that it was hardly noticeable other than the moisture. The weirdest part of the meal was the chive powder. It made the presentation pretty, but it was THE most flavorless thing on the plate. I thought I was going crazy, since chives usually add such a nice garlicy-onion flavor, so I had a bite of the powder without anything else, and it was literally just powder with no flavor. Not sure why that was.
Having said that, I will note that my wife said it was one of the best lobster rolls she'd ever had and I head someone say the salmon tartar was really good as well. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing, I dunno. I can't stress how stunning the view is, though. If you go, be sure to take the elevator down to sea level and walk outside onto the grass. But maybe try something other than the salmon from the menu. And keep the salt...
Read moreThe restaurant relies more on the prestige and aesthetics of the resort and that is reflected in the bland flavors of the food. The sea view and aesthetics were nice. However, the food was lackluster in flavor and components. This restaurant is popular in the night hence the wait time is very long. I waited nearly an hour before I got my meal. My companion and I ordered the Spring Cavatelli and the Miso Smoked Salmon Pate. I enjoy salmon typically but the interpretation of the salmon to a high school cafeteria like “tuna salad with extra mayonnaise” had me questioning whether I enjoy eating the fish or not. Furthermore, the root chips were stale. The salmon was topped with raw spinach leaves and the bok choy barely tasted fermented. A beginner cook can conjure up a Spring Cavatelli better and I encourage others to buy grocery ingredients than to spend hard earned money here on a lack luster buttery pasta. Do not be fooled by the ingredients and foreign words on the menu. The execution is terrible. Overall, I was very disappointed in the food. The staff was polite and nice. The most you would get is a slight grimaced face behind polite words if a server or hostess was irritated. I naively expected the food to match the expensive price and that is why I chose to have my birthday dinner here. However, I was left unsatisfied and disappointed instead. I will not be coming back to the restaurant. If you value taste , I would recommend eating elsewhere.
P.S. If you are of a minority demographic expect to be stared at an uncomfortable amount of time (but that is not the...
Read moreI can't say enough about our Valentine's Day experience. Everything was perfect. Absolutely worth even more than what we paid. It's a beautiful view; being right on the beach. We went right during "golden hour" and all the colors were spectacular. See? I haven't even gotten to the food!
Our meal started with a lovely complimentary "toast" for Valentine's Day. Then we had warm bread and a butternut lobster bisque to die for. Then my wife enjoyed a lovely cold meal served in this absolutely beautiful bowl/plate that was so beautiful and original. My "Land and Sea" couldn't have been better. The shrimp was nice and poppy, asparagus crisp, and the sauces were excellent. But the steak, whew, the steak was absolutely incredible. I seriously cannot say enough about it. Cooked perfectly, it just melted in my mouth. I swear it was the best steak I've ever had. Lastly our desserts were beautifully presented to us. I had an eggnog creme brulee, with fruits and cornbread atop. Extraordinary. My wife had a chocolate lava cake with blood orange sherbet. They also went a bit further with hers and even wrote Happy Valentine's Day on the plate in chocolate sauce. Chef's kiss.
Lastly the service was impeccable. The door was opened for us right away, and from there it only got better. Our waitress, Kristen, was super friendly, had some great suggestions and made sure that our drinks were never even less than 1/4 full.
