Editing my previous 5 star rating to 3. I would give 1 but donāt want to discredit all the other amazing employees. Iāve frequented this cafe multiple times a week for the last two years since moving across the country to the area, and usually stick with the same order, 20oz iced coconut mocha. A few employees would remember my usual, even when my husband would pick up for me. The tall blonde guy and the shorter guy with glasses (sorry I never learned your names!), are awesome and my drink was always made correct, and I would tip $1 every time I went in. Thus the initial 5 star rating.
Today I went in and ordered a lavender teacake latte, not my usual but Iāve ordered this often enough to know how it tastes. I think the kid that made it was new, so I donāt blame him at all. We all start somewhere. I got home before I tried it, and to me it tasted like caramel milk. I had my husband try it to confirm and he agreed. I was just going to pull an espresso shot at home to add to it since I really hate confrontation and complaining so I rarely ever do, but decided to go in to have it remade.
I spoke with a blonde female employee, not one I have seen before or who was even present when I was in the first time, to have it remade. All was fine until they poured the drink and had to show me that it was white chocolate at the bottom and not caramel. I relayed that it had tasted like caramel to me though, and she responded that itās just because itās sweet and was definitely white chocolate. I wasnāt initially going to mention that it tasted like the espresso was missing, but I said it tasted milky. Yes itās a latte and they are mostly milk, but you should still be able taste the espresso especially if the shop cares enough to dial in every morning and use fresh beans. She had asked if I wanted something else. The manner in which she treated my complaint and made me feel dumb for thinking something was off about my drink. At this point I already felt made out to be stupid and that my complaint was invalid. I declined a new drink and didnāt press for a refund, and just left because I was feeling flustered and upset.
I worked customer service as a fast food manager for 10 years prior to my current job. I know what itās like to have to handle seemingly trivial complaints and genuinely be annoyed by them even when the customer is wrong, but you never let the customer see or feel that. Gossip about it in back of house later if you really need to. If someone has a complaint, regardless of the item being made correctly or not, you donāt need to prove to the customer it was right to begin with when the customer clearly thinks otherwise. No need to talk down to a customer because you do not like when something is pointed out to be wrong. Just apologize for the inconvenience and remake it or offer a different drink. Iām sure the drink was made correctly and I never insisted it wasnāt, just that to me personally it tasted wrong. But, if lavender and white chocolate is tasting like caramel then something about the syrup, measurements, or mixing may be off.
All this to say that I genuinely appreciate the long time employees and their hard work who made getting a little treat the highlight of my day. They are ones deserving of 5 stars and praise.
3 stars for my experience today. I will not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped in over the weekend to Kiss Me. We were visiting Prudenville as a small group for a reunion and stayed a few blocks away from Kiss Me. We stopped in three different times over the weekend and left disappointed each time. I don't know if it was tourist season burnout or just not caring but all of us were extremely disappointed in the level of service provided from the staff. Between three of us we received either cold greetings (or none at all and just stares). One of us ordered a beverage assuming it was hot, was never asked how we would like it (chai tea). When it was provided iced and we asked to make sure it was supposed to be for us and not another customer we got a begrudging sigh when we said it was supposed to be hot. I had to ask for my drink to be re-steamed 2/3 visits because it was luke-warm at best. Drink temp couldn't have been hotter than 85-90f. Both times no apologies but cold "yeah". As someone who worked in the coffee industry for over a decade I'm normally very go with the flow and and understand people have bad days. Again, I'm not sure if it was end of tourist season burn out or not with the attitude. Nor do I know if it's not having access to thermometers for steaming, no SOPs, or just not caring. They have an amazing opportunity with their location but it's being wasted with poor staffing. Also their chai is not actually chai. Apparently it's just a flavored syrup they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were not greeted upon our arrival. No hello, no how are you, we got nothing. The guy just stood there waiting for me to give him my order. We drove 20 minutes to give this place a try. Wanted bubble tea. Only had 2 bubble flavors ( perhaps late on getting shipment, could be good reasons). We were served our teas in coffee to go containers and when I asked how we were suppose to drink them, the guy said he could pour them into a different cup. Why weren't they put in the proper cup to begin with? We also got a mango smoothie. It was also served to us in a coffee to go container. We found that odd. The smoothie was so thick my daughter couldn't drink it. She had to eat it with a spoon once we got home. Again, upon our departure noone said a word to us, yet the employees had no problem chatting amongst themselves. It made us feel awkward to be there. I love being greeted and feeling welcomed when I go into a business. It's the number one thing that is important in customer service. Always acknowledge the customer and make small talk. We also felt weird in the shop because it didn't have a coffee shop vibe. The lightning was very dim. I know others may appreciate the 'uniqueness' of the inside, but I felt otherwise. I'm sorry. I hate giving bad reviews, I'm not a negative person by all means, but we truly had a...
