I know this restaurant has many great 5 star reviews so I'll get to to the point. I found this restaurant last week and decided to try them out. The inside is nice, there's a few TVs and one huge one in a karaoke/DJ area. There's a bar inside as well and plenty of seating. Inside the ambience is pretty cool and there are lots of art. This is a good spot for larger parties and to catch a sports event as well.
I ordered the kids cheeseburger, 2 beef and chicken enchiladas, the birria tacos and two drinks, a Mama Mangonada Rita and a frozen mango margarita.
Kids cheeseburger: My son enjoyed his burger. It was a decent size and came with fries. And was very tasty.
Birria Tacos: my wife ate these and she said they were very good she also liked the dip. I tried some and they were flavorful.
Enchiladas: my daughter and I didn't like these. I didn't like the texture of the tortilla they were ok thick and a bit in the grainier side. The flavors was average. The beef was just meh and the chicken was below average. The chicken was flavorless. The accompanying sauces and queso was just okay to me. I also felt the rice and redried beans was small for the price. I had came here because I had a craving for enchiladas but I was disappointed. I won't be back because of this.
It seems like some of the food is good and some can be hit or miss from my experience and reading some other reviews.
Drinks
Mama Mangonada Rita - my wife enjoyed this margarita as it's her favorite and it was made well.
Mango frozen margarita - I didn't enjoy mine I didn't taste the alcohol and it was too sweet to for me. This was another...
Read moreWe tried this place for the very first time, and lo and behold-we were very disappointed! My sister ordered 2 enchiladas, for which she thought she said it right, but didn't--she got only cheese enchiladas and she did not like it at all--well, she could have communicated it better than that!
I ordered nachos, and oh, my goodness it was a big disappointment! I finally got my nachos the way that I had hoped, because they were going to put GRATED CHEESE on them--which I did not like--so I wanted cheese that was melted on them!
As someone said, they only sell only bottles of soft drink instead of fountain drinks--it was very annoying! At first, I asked for sweet tea, but it was very strong, and there was hardly ANY ice! It was not sweet, and you have to add your OWN SUGAR in it, since sugar does not dissolve very well in cold liquids!-I did not like that at all either!
The meat on the nachos-what was it??--steak or ground meat?? Seems I couldn't hardly tell!
My friend wanted coffee and it turned out to be terrible too! We were disappointed in this experience, and we don't think we'll go back! Go to Mi Tata instead-they have the best food and wonderful service!
The reason for 2-stars is the place did look nice. And the gentleman that was working on the place was very kind and gentle in his demeanor.
Also, the place for my dear sweet friend would be nicer if it was a bit warmer, because the poor girl...
Read moreI was craving egg and chorizo breakfast burritos. I got two for less than $5. They were still hot by the time I got home. Try the horchata or fresh hibiscus drink.
Needed a Caldo de Res, TexMex beef soup to get Ragweed out of my sinuses and throat. I KNEW I would find my medicinal liquid at La Fondita. The guacamole is spicy and did the trick! If I can't have El Paso menudo or caldo, La Fondita is also ¡Sabroso! I can breathe and climb 40 steps without stopping! To celebrate I stopped for hot chocolate from Starbucks. My cup and mountain of whipped topping.
Went for a weekend Pozole. This is not exquisite New Mexico Pozole, nor El Paso Menudo. Disappointing. Too much fat on meat. Something is missing...not equal balance of hominy and TexMex spices were not included. I believe I will head to El Paso SOON. Fondita is overpriced and does NOT offer Veteran discount.
Had some enchiladas that were mighty dry. They were corn tortillas with NO ENCHILADA sauce. La Fondita does NOT serve TexMex. I have no clue where cook is from. Not Texas. I will make my own enchiladas from now on. La Fondita just doesn't cook like Tejanos are accustomed to. The ONLY enchiladas for me are from EL PASO TAMALES. All others are tasteless and...
