I came here on 5/3 and told Brody I believe his name is, that I'll be writing a review. This day did not start off well for me, decided to go for a walk at about 7ish pm and my husband texts me from work to go get some ice cream and pizza. I told him I'll just get ice cream so I don't spend too much money. I head over to Carmella's and was not aware that it was already past 8 I believe which is their closing time, but they still took care of me. I was approached first by I believe her name is Caitlin as I was told and told her I just want ice cream and since the flavors had changed since last time I got a scoop there she was very patient with me in describing the flavors. I went with classic vanilla and salty oreo which was very delicious together. At this point I started some small talk with Brody who was at the time cleaning up and was the one to scoop my ice cream. It got silent while I was waiting and decided to just ask Caitlin about the pizza. I said "hey I know you work here, but how's the pizza" and immediately heard Brody respond "it's the best in Denver". Caitlin then proceeded to offer me a slice, I responded "oh I am not going to order any now" and she said no we have left over have one (paraphrasing) and I was overfilled with joy because 1. it made my day so much better 2. I wanted to get a slice, but decided not to as I walked to the store and look at how I got a slice on the house to try for the first time. Just to share, Brody was right; now I have not tried every pizza in Denver, but I was a loyal Mod Pizza customer, but Carmella's did not disappoint at all. The crust had to have been my favorite part right next to the flavor of their cheese slice. Anyway, I sat outside enjoying it and Brody came out to clean the tables and even asked me how is it. For a young lad he is very hospitable and I am glad they have him there. He is very knowledgeable of their menu too and upcoming items he shared with me. Will definitely be back to order an entire pie and more ice cream. I do hope they are able to extend their business hours to at least 10pm as they are the closest in the neighborhood (walkable) that offers good...
Read moreWhile the pizza is delicious my experience in this over priced establishment left a bitter taste in my mouth today. So much so that I will not be going back. I’ve been going here since they opened and every time I enter the door the place has changed. In the beginning everyone working was so kind but today I felt like I was in a scene from pretty woman on Rodeo Drive. I went to the counter I always order at and was told I needed to go to the front to order, that they had to keep this counter open for the patio. These instructions about ordering were delivered in such a way I almost walked out. Then I was told I would need to go back to the front counter to pick up my pizza even tho they walked right by the table I was sitting at. Ok, I did everything they instructed me to do and the longer I sat there visiting with my daughter the more shocked I became. The person giving these instructions acted like she had never seen me before and I’ve had conversations with her at my previous visits. Maybe she has an identical twin. I hated the way this place made me feel. So unwelcome and snooty. Never again! The pizza is very good however I will never enter that building again. Nothing is worth being...
Read moreCarmella is a fantastic spot to grab a pizza, and we often stop by when we're in the area. The pizza quality is solid, especially the regular crust, which the kids love. However, the gluten-free options could use some improvement. While I understand that gluten-free crust isn't sold by the slice, the quality of the whole pizza just isn't on par with the regular crust. Hopefully, they’ll work out the kinks over time.
On the downside, the coffee experience here has been less than ideal. Multiple times, my latte has ended up more like warm milk than coffee or matcha. The baristas also seem overwhelmed, often forgetting customers at both the counter and the windows, and they sometimes seem to be in a bad mood. For the price, I think you can find better-quality coffee elsewhere in the area.
The selection of wine, liquor, and non-alcoholic drinks is impressive, with a great variety of beers, wines, and sake.
Overall, Carmella is a great choice for pizza and drinks—just maybe not for coffee. It’s not quite Whole Foods, but it comes...
