Joppa Experience — Restaurant in Des Moines

My word! I ordered a catfish dinner with collard greens and Mac n Cheese. I feel as if I had been transported back in time. I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen, as she prepared dinner. I remember helping peel sweet potatoes and cleaning and cutting collard greens. The food is top-notch. The seasoning of everything is perfect. The catfish was crisp outside and juicy inside. The collard greens were flavorful with a bit of bite. The Mac n Cheese was just saucy enough without being messy. Did I mention that everything was seasoned perfectly? The waitstaff was so very kind, patient and informative. I was told about the Chicago menu and the Friday Soul Food menu. If I hadn't been so full, I'd have ordered one of the HUGE slices of fresh-baked cakes that they have! This just means that I'll have to return. Great portions, great staff, incredible food! The Joppa Experience was hired to cater my 50th birthday celebration. Joppa and her team provided food that was amazing - it was like Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner and the best backyard bbq rolled into one event. Joppa and her team were on time, set up was beautiful and the food was hot and fresh. She provided jerk turkey tips, garden salad, shrimp pasta salad, three types of wings, fried fish and fruit salad. EVERYTHING was good. People went back for seconds and thirds. My family who flew into town took to-go plates on the plane and the smell of the food invoked inquiries from TSA and passengers on the plane. So very refreshing, Now this is what I’m talking about!!!!!!!! Portion size is amazing even better than I’ve seen in Chicago and taste like I was back there with every bite. Italian beef was huge and topped with the right type of peppers. And don’t get me started on the soul food menu. I haven’t seen a true rib tip since I left Chicago 5 years ago. The Jerk sauce taste like it came off of 79th street. The oxtails so tender and tasty brought tears to my eyes. The Mac and Cheese, sweet potatoes, and fried cabbage taste like a bunch ole ladies in a black church kitchen had a council and decided to bless this restaurant with the recipe.
