Captain Jay's Fish & Chicken — Restaurant in Detroit

This was one of the worst experiences I have had in a very long time!!. The only reason why I gave them a start was so I could post my comment... I called my order in and I still ended up waiting in their lobby for over 30 minutes. Needless to say I waited approximately 10 minutes before I left home, stopped and played lottery at the store and still got caught by the train!! As I was standing there waiting on my food, there were 2 young ladies waiting as well one of them commented on how slow the staff was and the fact that people had come in after them ordered their food and had been served. I finally got my food , as I checked my order the jumbo shrimp I was expecting looked like medium shrimp. I asked the cashier to conirm my order, and the next thing I know the customer and one of the employees got into a full blown argument. They were each cursing, yelling and threatening one another totally unacceptable behavior by the customer and the employee. What I found to be troubling was the manager never cam out to address the situation. It wasseveral minutes before anyone took any type of action. What made me go to this restaurant tonight was the positive reviews however after witnessing the inappropriate behavior they missed the mark totally what was even more astonishing was the fact that the manager or no employee of the establishment considered the safety of the customers that was in the lobby with this irate customer who was yelling back and forth, hitting the glass and eventually spitting on the glass; the employee was jumping up and down and obviously trying to provoke her as she stood behind double sided plexiglass. When I expressed my disappointment in the way this was handled, I was told by the cashier that she was Bennie and wasn't in it. I was asked to please move to the side so she could take the next order. UNBELIEVABLE! With all the craziness going on in our society,lack of involvmemt is a factor.SMH obviously training is needed. I will never spend a quarter in this...

The staff there today was rude. I have been getting chicken here for a long time, my order is always the same. I always get 2 bbq sauce cups with my meal instead of the 1 bbq and 1 hot sauce. I have NEVER been charged extra for this. Today it was a problem. I check my bag and ask to have the hot sauce exchanged and I get told it's an EXTRA 50 CENTS.... not that 2 quarters is an issue, I asked why all of a sudden is it extra. I get told it's their policy. I explain how I've been coming for years and never been charged. I kindly asked for a manager where she continues to tell me its extra, goes into detail how bbq sauce costs more than hot sauce, how another location even charges for the sauce even if you get a meal!! I then get told that she will talk to her staff and MAKE SURE THEY ARE CHARGING THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!! I was beside myself that a manager is saying all of this to a CUSTOMER!!!! How unprofessional.

Also, their menu and info online say they open at 10am M-Sat.... dont count on that!! Most days they dont open until almost 1030am.

I will say this, at least my order was almost ready when I got there. Normally I can call it in, arrive 10 min later and it hasn't even been dropped in the fryer!! This is THE FIRST TIME it was started before i got there.

I love their food but their SERVICE, oh my, needs some major...

Horrible!!! I ordered online, went in to pick up...some other people were already complaining about there order taking a while and they called in ahead of time. Once someone finally asked me did i already ordered I said yes. They asked the names I gave my name and she said it's not here, are you sure this is where you ordered, I said yes. I stated I ordered online, she stated, "see that's where y'all be messing up" I said how's that?? She walked away without saying anything else...I stood by for about another 15 minutes, assuming they were preparing my order...already having ordered online 30 plus minutes prior, and the app assured me that my food was done...it was not. They workers were rude, and not mindful of the customers waiting. They were more caught up in dancing and voting on who were better artists in a particular genre as opposed to making food and taking care of the customers. On top of that the okra ordered was overcooked while the catfish which turned out to be swai cat was ok, hence the 2 stars...but not good enough to earn any higher. The atmosphere was not conducive of a good business, it was to much debauchery and was not very clean inside. I will not repay this Captain Jay's Fish & Chicken another visit...once here was more...
