An excellent addition to Banglatown! Star Coney opened recently as the only coney in the area that is fully halal, joining only a couple of others anywhere in Metro Detroit. Even better, Star is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which has become a rare and precious thing now that COVID has flung our dining options back by 25 years. (Star had more limited hours when they first opened and were ramping up, but are now at full 24/7 operation.) I stopped by with two friends late on a Saturday night after celebrating's a friend's birthday down the street in Hamtramck. Star's parking lot was brightly lit and is near a high-traffic intersection (Conant & Davison), and the lobby/dining room inside is also brightly lit even late at night. They have a big and diverse menu, even compared to most other coneys. You'll find most of the expected standards here -- breakfast plates, omelettes, and sandwiches; burgers and hot sandwiches; coney dogs; fried appetizers. But there's also quite a few dishes not found at other coneys: chicken wings; burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches made with naga pepper sauce; chicken tikka sandwiches; but perhaps best of them all are five different kinds of egg rolls, which are large and well-stuffed. I had loaded hashbrowns, chicken tikka egg rolls, and a naga dog. My tablemates had Philly steak egg rolls, a burger, and a breakfast sandwich. We were all happy with everything we got, and I'll gladly go back again even when it's not a post-bar stop. Glad to have you in the neighborhood, Star! UPDATE 29 May 2023: Went back here with a dining partner on a hot Memorial Day afternoon. We got the egg roll 5-pack, choosing one of each of the five kinds (corned beef, Philly steak, Buffalo chicken, chicken tikka, and Naga) and a small side of lemon pepper fries. It took about 15 minutes to come out, and we at it there at the table. Everything was excellent, though the Naga roll definitely doesn't match the menu, and I'm not sure which one it was supposed to be. The menu says it's only vegetables (bell pepper, onion, tomato, potato) and I would assume from the "Naga" name that it's spiced with Naga peppers or a sauce made from them. However, the Point Of Sale screen at the register rings it up as "Chicken Tikka Naga Spice" (which is different from the normal "Chicken Tikka"), and that pretty much describes what we actually received: a fifth egg roll that is chicken and no vegetables. Between the tikka, Naga, and Buffalo, we actually couldn't tell for sure which one was which. They were all good, and we ate them happily, but there was definitely a lot of similarity. We were stuffed; 2.5 egg rolls and fries was a lot for even my big appetite, and it was a fair price at about $13/person. I'll keep coming back here, even passing up other coneys along the way. UPDATE 1 January 2024: Happy new year! Star is still as good as ever. Chili cheese tater tots are priced quite high, but are good. The corned beef hash isn't the greatest in the metro, but it's good enough and made fresh (not out of a can) so I'm happy with it. The owner(?) seems to be manning the entire kitchen all by himself every single time I go in, and he still has the energy and time to smile and wave both when I arrive and when I leave; that's impressive.

Gave Coney Star Halal a try Monday morning and was I disappointed 🤦🏾‍♀️. First I called and ordered T bone steak with eggs and hashbrowns. For them to call back 5 mins later to say they were out of steak. So I ended up just getting the one meal which was Beef bacon omelette with shredded cheese onion and bell peppers. I added onions and bell peppers to my hashbrowns and opt for the toast. The Coney is on 6 mile and Conant which is 12 mins from me. They said give them 15. My food wasn’t ready until 45 mins after I called. I get home first thing I tried was the hashbrowns straight trash. I didn’t even give it to my dogs. They taste as if they were thawed out and refrozen. It didn’t taste like potatoes they were hard. The omelette didn’t have enough veggies. I taste the beef bacon and cheese. Toast was hard and had fake butter “Whirl” on it u 👎. I will not be back sorry! I could’ve had went to the Mini Meat Market and got me a pound of beef bacon cheaper then the $16 I paid.

I was in Detroit for the weekend and craving a good gyro. I found this spot through Google and decided to give it a try — even though it was a 39-minute drive, it was totally worth it! I ordered the gyro and a Philly cheesesteak with extra grilled jalapeños — both were packed with flavor. The Philly was a solid 10/10. The fries were also crispy and tasty. It took about 15–20 minutes for the food to be ready, but it was definitely worth the wait. The place isn’t fine dining, but it’s clean with decent seating. It’s not really a family-style environment, more of a casual quick-bite spot. There’s also some parking available behind the store. I also tried the chicken roll — delicious! Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area and craving flavorful fast food.

This place is a gem. My family enjoys the food. We've tried a variety of things. My favorite eggroll is the corn beef. I've had the grill chicken salad, and the chili fries tastes clean. I've had a variety of breakfasts, Ny style chicken over rice.... It's all been good. Call ahead and prepare to have some patience, they do the best that they can with short staff but I don't go anywhere these days and expect not to wait, still it wasn't bad.

Dina was at the register. She's kind and communicative. You really do get service with a smile which is pretty rare in 2025. Forhad is a great cook. And get this, HE WEARS GLOVES. Cleanliness is so important to me. If you stand and watch the grill is cleaned as he goes. The place is pretty clean in general. Even the small seating area is tidy, the rugs look vacuumed and the floors swept and mopped.

The portions are fair. If you have a dash pass they run sales often that make it even more worth it. I haven't tried the desserts yet but I've been eyeballing the carrot cake.

Good customer service is so hard to find. But not at Coney Star. I'd love to see this neighborhood...

I was a regular this was a good spot last year, since staff changed the food is now worse. The fries now taste liked it’s been frying in old oil the stuff you order taste different every time you order and also the prices are different every time and sometimes you get sauce sometimes they want you pay for it. Edit : i did not ask for 5 free sauce i don’t know who told you that i asked can i get a naga sauce you should take negative feedback to improve instead of attacking the customer! I am a regular customer my family orders from this store a-lot we spend every time up to $50. You trying to charge me $1 dollar for a small sauce is not the big deal is the way your food quality and service quality went down and wait you saying I shouldn’t expect free sauce and pay ? Bro I’m paying for some nasty food fries that been friend in some old oil and i got a problem paying for 1 dollar for some 5 cents sauce it’s just mayonnaise and naga sauce thats it not some...
