El Palenque Restaurant — Restaurant in Detroit

I love trying new Mexican places, especially the whole in the wall... mom and pop places. Everything is homemade. NEVER ever had a salsa that tasted like theirs. I am a hot fan... it may be a little spicy for some. This place has been here for 43 years. Well they are in a new building. They were a few over, but there was a fire and now in a new building. What drew me in was the pictures on how they hook up the tostadas. To my surprise they actually have the goooddd tacos. Mmmmm

Absolutely delicious!! They have drink and meal specials that are awesome values, but even without that the food is fairly priced. Chicken fajitas were delicious and they came out sizzling hot and there was plenty of food. We went twice and I had the fish tacos (crispy and yummy but the sauce was too spicy to even dip twice) and then the burrito with shrimp, chicken and steak. Portions were huge, and the sides were good, not just an afterthought. I can't speak to authenticity but I can speak for my taste buds and they say, 'yes!...

Kudos to Carito and Jose Luis Durán for their delicious lent special of tortitas de camarón con nopalitos in guajillo sauce, shrimp patties smothered in tender cactus and guajillo sauce, it was simply delicious and very affordable. The Duran's family have been always very nice and accommodating to us. Their food is delicious and made from scratch. My wife loves milanesa either beef or chicken. We have been customers there for...
