Lape Soul Food — Restaurant in Detroit

Let me start by saying the food is good. I want to give you guys a five-star so bad! The only reason I can't is because the food is not consistent in taste. Me personally I love ordering the oxtails which are good every time I order. But the taste is different every time I get them and I don't know what it is. I'm only under the assumption that the same person doesn't cook the food every time. Once again that does not mean this food is not good. Keep in mind, it is in the hood And even though I have not had any bad experiences, I think it is best to call your order in The lobby can get a little crowded If you walk in order food and other people come in to order just like you. Also keep in mind that the parking situation isn't the best in the case that you decide to walk in and place an order versus if you called your order in you're in and out and going about your business. Just keeping it real with my Black People. Nephew insisted that this is the place for Soul Food. The Chicken was Super Dry. The Black Eye Peas was not fully cooked. Not trying to knock my Black People for having a Business. This was my first time going there. It smelled funny inside the establishment, that's all I can say. Can't remember the smell, Just lil odd to me. Another thing, I left the food out overnight in the foam container. My mom is from the South, early 80's She said what you go do with that food. Basically she was saying it was spoiled and I smelled and said the same thing. Some people say I have a iron stomach, That food ran thru me. That's not good. First time coming here and the food was amazing . Good size portions for the price , food was fresh and hot . Only complaint I had with the food was the black eye peas weren’t seasoned to my likings but still ate them (nothing a little hot sauce couldn’t fix ). It is a small place and the wait is lengthy but it’s worth the wait . Cashier was friendly , next time I am in Detroit I will be back . I ordered 3 plates (with a couple of extra sides ) and it came up to 72.00 , but I assure you the food and the portions is worth the price .Some of the items we got on our 3 plates were meatloaf , smother pork chops , oxtails , dressing , greens, rice and gravy , mac and cheese , black eye peas and corn bread (and a few other things ) .
