Since our favorite Mexican restaurant closed due to the pandemic, my husband and I have been searching for a local place with all of our traditional favorites. My husband read a glowing online review of this restaurant so we figured we would give it a try. What a hidden gem of an eatery. There is ample parking on the side of the building. We went on Tuesday, 1/25/22 at 5 PM, and were seated immediately because it's seat yourself. Our server, Juan, was at our table within a few minutes with menus, chips and salsa. There were very few chips in the basket, so we had to ask for more.
My husband ordered the California burrito dinner and a Bud Light, and I ordered the chicken enchilada dinner. Since it was our first time there, we didn't quite understand what all of our choices were. We asked Juan, who adeptly explained our choices, but being non-Hispanic speaking, we didn't know what he was talking about, so we had to ask a lot of questions to get to some understanding of what the terms he used meant. He was very patient with us.
The food came to our table within a reasonable amount of time, maybe 6-8 minutes. Everything was piping hot and very fresh. The enchilada dinner comes with three nicely sized enchiladas, rice, beans, sour cream, and lettuce, tomato and sliced onion on the side. I ordered the enchiladas with red sauce, which was bright and fresh tasting and there was cheese on them as well. Everything was subtly spiced and delicious. My husband enjoyed his burrito immensely, and indicated it was very flavorful with nicely spiced chunks of steak.
We were given a choice of refried beans or whole pinto beans. My husband ordered the refried and I got the whole beans. I have to positively RAVE about the whole beans. They were flavored with chili, some kind of pork, which seemed like bacon to me, and had a subtle heat to them. The rice was very good as well.
When we arrived at 5 PM there were very few people in the restaurant, but we figured that is probably normal for 5 PM on a Tuesday. By the time we left at 6 PM, the place was PACKED. We know why: this is the real deal. We've found our new...
Read moreAfter not being here in over 10 years given the fact that I live around the block reminded me why I do not frequent the restaurant. Upon arriving (6 guests) a man sitting the people came to us and took us to a table where a gentleman was sitting alone, he quickly told the man to get up very rudely hitting the menus on the table while telling him to stand up so we could sit at the table, mind you I was telling him that we could sit at another table right behind me that could sit us all. He continues telling the man very rude to get up in English the man sitting down was a black man so because of his skin color he spoke to him in English that poor man didn't even speak English, he just figured because of his skin color that right there made me upset that he made this paying customer that was waiting for his carry out order get up off the table while there was plenty of other empty tables around. If that were me I would've asked for my money back and walked out, that's no way to treat a paying customer. (That's the first issue). Second issue he talked to the waitresses very rude and loud to the point that we could hear everything still talking about that man that he made get up. Our food was okay, we've had way better from other places around our neighborhood. My daughter loves al pastor so she ordered 4. They were nasty. It was like the pastor that you buy already made at the supermarket not authentic at all. We asked our waitress if we could swap them for another kind of meat and she looked like she didn't want to. They swapped them we just packed them up to take them home. While walking out he was standing by the door and didn't even bother on saying a good night or a thank you or anything at all. I do not know if he's the manager or hostess but this man should not be working around people, he has no respect towards his co workers or customer service whatsoever he should be fired. The place was packed so im guessing they're doing something right but as for me I will...
