Valentino's Diner — Restaurant in Detroit

FOOD IS DECENT, BUT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!!My daughter called an order in, before she went to work and asked my son to pick it up upon his arrival home. He entered the place and the older lady immediately asked, “was he here to pick up Olivia’s order.. he replied yes, got the food and bought it home. I know my daughter had ordered a grilled chicken pita dinner as well as chicken tenders and fries for my grandson. I thought she may have changed her mind and ordered him breakfast instead, but when I saw the pork sausage, ( he’s Muslim) glad I didn’t give it to him!! I texted my daughter and asked if she changed the order? She replied no!! She called up there and the lady started yelling at her and told her to bring the food back😳 my son was at the establishment at the same time my daughter was talking to her.. he said the lady told him, to bring the food back or pay full price for the original order.. this is his third trip back up there.. so I called by this time cause I’m pissed!! I was going to explain to her, what happened to the order, because I wanted to make sure I was talking to the right person.. she answered, didn’t say hi or anything.. just hold on 🤔.. I can hear her rudely talking to someone and she was repeating the order, then she let out a big sigh!! I said, bingo.. this gotta be her..I start immediately talking cause I hear her talking sharp to my son!! We not having that!! She instantly calmed down, and stopped talking so reckless.. I asked why was she so hostile with my kids, when it was her fault!! She said, she wasn’t and my daughter called yelling at her.. we know our kids.. and I told her that’s not my daughter character.. and my son is up there, if they were disrespectful he would’ve been disrespectful now!! I said, with all these diseases going on, y’all want that food back? She said, yeah it’s our policy.. I asked again why would she be talking to my son like that cause I’m actually witnessing the call.. she said, it was busy and she’s 60 years old, that would be very unprofessional of her.. This is a great little hidden gem diner! When you walk in the door, if you’re lucky like me, you’ll meet Mickey! She’s a beautiful soul that greets you with a smile and that energy that says you’re with family and she knows you haven’t been eating right! It was a quiet morning, but the atmosphere from the employees was lively and fun. The decor is brightly colored and clean. Random customers came in for takeout and left with smiles.

I ordered the meat lovers skillet with red skin potatoes. My plate was mounded with food! I didn’t even eat a quarter of it before I was full. The potato’s had crispy skins, and they did NOT skimp on the cheesy goodness. It was perfectly seasoned and I never thought about picking up a salt or pepper shaker!

She was patient while my son used his communication device to make up his mind about what he wanted and treated him like seeing someone nonverbal was an everyday occurrence. I placed an order for Valentino's through DoorDash last night, near closing time, which may have contributed to the incorrect order. When I attempted to call the restaurant to address the issue instead of leaving a review, the individual I spoke with seemed too busy to listen to my concerns.

I had ordered the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, a side salad, and an extra cup of broccoli and cheddar. Unfortunately, the turkey turned out to be four pieces of thin deli meat that was seared, which was quite disappointing. Additionally, my salad was missing, and the soup I received, which I believe was tomato bisque, was extremely thick and resembled more of a gravy topping and not cheddar broccoli. The only edible thing here was the potatoes and gravy.

Although I did receive an $11 credit back from DoorDash, my primary goal was not to seek a refund. I have ordered from Valentino's before without any issues, but after this experience, I am hesitant to order again and if I do it will not be the turkey meal again if this is the standard it was...
