What a treat! The sandwiches. The pies. The cookies. The staff. The owner. The charming retro decor. From the moment we entered this delightful bakery, we were treated like family - warmly welcomed by the staff and the owner, Linda Hundt, who then introduced us to her “Mommy,” who also was visiting. Our sandwiches were served on freshly baked bread with a side of potato chips accompanied with green onion dip. We tried a slice of coconut cream pie - rich, velvety coconut filling topped with luscious cream and toasted coconut in a perfect, crumbly crust. Linda brought a warm-from-the-oven experimental cookie for us to sample. She thought it hadn’t risen enough to meet her standards of sweet perfection, but the taste - oh, my. We can’t wait to return to try this new treat when it is perfected. We purchased a few other cookies and a gluten-free almond macaroon to take with us - each better than the other. Before departing, our new friend Linda autographed a copy of her cookbook. Be sure to get your copy. It is filled with beautiful photos, heart-warming stories, and her incredible recipes for Sweetie-licious Pies. One more thing - did I mention that Linda is a nineteen-time national pie baking champion? This bakery is worth driving many miles out of your way to visit. Plan your...
Read moreI’ve given this place 3 tries over the years in hopes that maybe it will live up to the hype. The first time I came here I tried a pie which was pretty but inedible; the crust had so much salt that it ruined the pie altogether. A couple years ago I stopped with a friend and bought a few peanut butter blossom cookies which were just ok, nothing special, my grandma definitely made them better. Recently I stopped by and bought a lemon cookie (don’t recall the exact name) and it was awful. The cookie was hard as a hockey puck and it was packed with so much sugar that I had to toss it unfortunately. I was quite literally chewing on sugar granules.
All of the baked goods are decorated lovely and look appealing but I can’t say the same about the taste. I truly don’t understand why so many people recommend coming here. Perhaps all three times I just got unlucky? I don’t intend to sway anyone from coming here, maybe you will have better luck than I have. I’m sorry but I will not...
Read moreHaving just moved to Dewitt, my husband and I were very curious about Sweetie-licious. Apparently they have won a lot of pie contests, even national ones? Anyway, it didn't take long for my husband to find an excuse to bring home a pie, haha! It was delishious!! We got the Berry Berry pie. My husband said it was too many berries for him, but to be honest he would be happy with a pie made entirely of crust, so he's not exactly a expert on the subject. As a fruit lover, I was completely happy with it!
The price matches the taste- we couldn't afford to take one home every week, but I felt that it was appropriate for what you get, and we will be getting pie...
