TL;DR: Good breakfast food, but the appearance is a bit sloppy.
I've visited this place a few times now and although I do enjoy the food, the general atmosphere of the place tends to leave me a bit wanting.
Let's start with the positives: The food here is very good. Their bagels are fresh and taste great. The toppings on the bagels are clearly real. The steak, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich is always a delicious option that I'd highly recommend. Their coffee is decent as well. The staff is usually very friendly and accommodating.
The negatives: The place in general looks a little grungy. The tables are crowded close together with little room in between. As a tall and somewhat larger person, this makes it a bit uncomfortable to try to squeeze into a seat if both of the main tables are occupied. Some of the tables are also usually covered up with supplies of some form or another in untidy stacks. There are also untidy stacks of supplies visible in hallways adjacent to the dining area and the entire restaurant just looks a bit run down. The standing area is very small and not really able to accommodate any kind of a rush and it's easy to feel super crowded. My only other complaint is that certain members of the staff are somewhat ride and very pushy about tips. I do understand, as a former server, that tips make up the primary income, but in general, if a tip is deserved, it's left. I don't find it professional to press someone for a tip or treat them rudely should they choose not to give one.
That being said, overall, none of the negatives outweigh the positives in my book. My wife and I will be going back for the occasional breakfast date like we've done several times now. And I'd recommend the place to others. This small business is well...
Read moreThis is SUPER insulting! When I first started working above this place 3 years ago I came in for food and was treated with such disregard I felt racially discriminated against and the food I received was horrible to be so expensive. With that being my second time in there and treated with the same disrepect I decided then that I would never spend another penny in there and I havent! Today a coworker offered to buy me lunch so I agreed. I ordered the Chicken CheeseSteak on a Hoagie. Im thinkin okay its been about 2 years maybe they got it together .. The picture speaks for itself. I got a hoagie with EXTREMELY dry cut up pieces of Chicken Breast with a slice of cheese across the top! THIS IS NOT CHICKEN CHEESESTEAK!! This is legitimately something on their menu that they are serving to people! Im not understanding how this is even happening. Needless to say not only will I not be spending my own money in there I wouldnt even let someone else spend their money for me in there! Absolutely ridiculous! Besides the fact they dont know how to treat PAYING customers walking into their establishment, you can see how much care they put into their food as well. I dont get how all these people are up here saying nothing but nice things about the place it must be a group of friends because theres no way and I know for a fact I am not the only one who have experienced ridiculous services from here. Yes they have fresh bagels .. thats about it! This was the nail in the...
Read moreSo i work in the Columbia building behind this bagel shop right. I called Main St. Bagel to place an order. My boy wanted a breakfast sandwich and i wanted some french toast. Pretty simple right? WRONG! When i asked for the french toast they said that it came with a meat. I didnt want any meat. I just wanted the french toast. I told them this and the woman on the phone told me that the owner said thats how it comes and i dont have to get it if i dont want it. At this point i asked the woman on the phone if i infact heard correctly, that the owner of this business wouldent work with a paying customer who orders from them daily over a piece of friggin ham. So in the end, after argueing with this retard of an owner 10 minuties over ham, she decided to knock 50 cents off the total, making 3 slices of bread dipped in eggs come to a grand total of 4.75. + tax. Pretty great right? So if your planning on eating there, make sure you order something that dosent require these people to think or have any customer service skills. Its unfortunate that this woman has no idea how to speak to people and isisnt smart enough to ballpark the cost of a slice of lunch meat. ...
