I had friends coming from another state. On August 2nd, 2025 we traveled to Dixon, Illinois to see Ronald Reagan's boyhood home in Dixon Illinois; a statue of a young Abraham Lincoln and a fort that he stayed in during the war. Also, we drove 5 miles East to see John Deere's home and blacksmith shop in Grand De Tour, Illinois. This is where he created the first steel plow. It made farming so much easier for farmers. All of this was a wonderful time and experience. For lunch, I had kept telling my guests that I was going to take them to eat the best pizza around. Granted, I hadn't been to the Dixon Angelo's 3 for many years. My family always go to Angelo's 2 in Sterling, Illinois. I remember them being identical in decor. They were always so beautiful and warm. Dixon Angelo's 3 has remodeled. It has pucky brown paint on all the walls. No pictures up on the walls. Just a big, unwarm space. I had bragged and bragged that Angelo's pizza was the best they'll ever have. Ours was so bland. Nothing special about it. It actually tasted like it was a frozen pizza. We got an extra large pizza with pepperoni, onions, tomatoes, and mushrooms. I am not lying...There were 8 little pieces of mushrooms on the whole pizza. Very little of any of the toppings. We were so disappointed. I apologized for hyping it up so much; and, then we got that. As far as the waitress, she was very attentive; and very nice. I would suggest Angelo's 2 in Sterling, Illinois any day. Tons of toppings; and always...
Read moreI ordered an Italian beef sandwich and paid $11 for a very large bun, a bag of chips and very little meat (no cheese). There was so little meat that the only reason I knew it was there is that a was piece hanging out of the bun, otherwise, the bun looked empty. I had to cut off about 1/3 of the bun and redistribute the meat, then take off the bottom bun so I could fold the top one in half to make a decent sandwich. The first bite before I did that felt like I was eating a dinner roll. Basically, it’s the same amount of meat as 1/2 a Portillos beef or 1/2 the beef needed for an actual Italian beef sandwich.
I ordered a second bun (almost $3 by itself) because I can’t finish an entire Italian beef from Portillos, and the bun is soggy the next day. I held the sandwich in one hand and the empty bun in the other and could only tell the difference because of packaging.
Adding insult to injury, the beef is basically Papa Charlie’s run of the mill bucket o’ beef. It’s not tender at all. It’s chewy, dry, and stringy, even downright hard in a couple of places. Definitely not worth the money.
I used the pick up window around back and, being dinner time in winter, it was dark and creepy because there is so little lighting back there. Most of the light came from the windows into the restaurant. If it wasn’t Dixon, I would have been on edge because the lighting is so terrible. I felt like I was in the opening scene of a...
Read moreVisited Dixon multiple times and tried to eat here every time. Finally went in and tried to pick up food, which was only available one time (over a year ago as of this review) and was disgusting.
But the main issue was absolutely never once being able to reach them. Across the course of two years visiting here we’ve made multiple attempts to call and never once has anyone answered. After ten minutes of dialing it goes to a default Verizon message saying the number that’s been called is not in service (which is weird because the ONE time we made it it through they answered).
When we go to order at the restaurant it’s completely closed after driving here over and over again. Their hours are false and/or inconsistent. Their phone number is false and/or just leads you to a voicemail most of the time that they never once return.
I honestly don’t believe this place even exists other than driving up to a windowless dark building at 730pm and not a soul inside at a random hour and day when their employees have all consecutively...
